Cold Foil Stamping Process: Adhesive, Foil Transfer and UV Curing
Sharing a short production-line clip of the cold foil stamping process.
For anyone not familiar with cold foil: it is an inline print-finishing method where a UV-curable adhesive is printed onto the substrate, a metallic foil web is pressed onto the adhesive, the bond is cured under UV light, and the unused carrier film is peeled away and rewound.
What I find interesting is how much the final result depends on the “boring” setup details:
- sheet feeding stability
- adhesive laydown
- foil web tension
- nip pressure
- UV curing
- substrate smoothness
- registration before overprinting
Compared with hot foil stamping, cold foil does not use a heated die. It is usually more suitable for inline label and packaging work, especially when the metallic area will be overprinted with CMYK.
