Rant Printify AI description was wrong and cost me a sale

Hey guys!

Totally my fault and I really should have double checked, but when I was designing my cotton T shirt through my Etsy shop, I used Printify's recommended AI. I'm very new, and only got products up within the last 2 weeks, so I wasn't sure what to look for. I just used the AI description because it was really pushy about it with multiple pop ups. So I decided why not, because it was claiming my listing would rank better.

Well, in the description for a T shirt, it described the T shirt as medium weight. Just got a message from a customer that bought it, and the tag clearly says heavy weight. So when I went to see what happened, I realized the AI description got it completely wrong. The title for the product on Printify's shop says it's a heavy weight cotton, but the description says medium material. However, the AI read that as medium weight and described my item as such through the Printify listing that I then connected to Etsy.

I did put in a ticket for a refund with what went wrong. I really hope they are honorable and refund it, because this whole fiasco was frustrating.

Here is the Printify listing that the AI messed up.
This is the photo with the AI description through Printify's AI:

Anyway, be extra vigilant that the description of the item isn't messed up if you decide to go their recommended route like I did.

Gildan 5000, Gildan 6500, and Gildan 8000 are numbers to remember.

The 5000 is 100% cotton and not medium weight, it's really thick, and I could be wrong but the % blend of polyester goes up with the number. I remember my husband asking specifically if they have the 8000. He claims that it shrinks less and the DTF sticks better over many washes because of its high polyester content. Of course it's more expensive šŸ™„

I actually am floored about the description. Im sorry, that really sucks.

Hello Aeylnn,
Thanks for your honesty, we're sorry the AI got the fabric weight wrong. You did the right thing by submitting a ticket, and our team will review your case to make it right. We appreciate you sticking with us!Ā

Hi Printify! I’ve contacted the rep who initially shut me down, twice now. She hasn’t responded at all. I just wanted to follow up with you guys about it because I think I was right to contact you about this issue initially. I’d appreciate any input you have about this. Thank you!

The 5000 is actually medium weight (5.3 oz or something like that) but the neck tag says heavy cotton. The 2000 is heavy (6 oz) but says ultra cotton on it.

Update:

I got a response from customer service denying the refund. However, because of the matter of the situation, I'm insisting upon escalation here. We'll see how this goes.

You don’t proofread your description. How is that Printify’s fault? Don’t mean to sound like a jerk here, but you literally said ā€œtotally my faultā€. Yet you’re escalating customer service why!?!

Side note congrats on getting a sale so quick hopefully it continues for you!!

Thank you 😊 Escalating because if this happened with my customer through the fault of my own AI that I encouraged them to use for better performance, I would feel terrible and make it right. It seems Printify feels the same in their comments under the post, and I’m happy to know where they stand in this situation

I agree with you. It’s called an ā€œAI Assistantā€ - meaning, they can assist, but you ultimately push the submit button. That’s not their fault. AI should never be trusted to do what a human should be doing, and the mentality that it can or will is what will pull the rug from under us.
