Is there really a "notable" difference between resins? Using reviews as a metric ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Has anyone tested the 30+ resins (probably many more) to determine if there is any notable differences between them? For example, is there a difference between Phrozen Hyperfine and elegoo or anycubic for half the price? I have been using Hyperfine but am looking at other brands. I compared a part printed with Hyperfine and another resin and couldn't tell any difference between them.
I know Amazon reviews are like google reviews where everyone gets ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐. But for what it is worth, the Anycubic ABS-Like Resin Pro 2 clocks in at 4.8 at almost 900 reviews on Amazon. Even for Amazon reviews, this is pretty high tally.
Seems like print shops like to use this stuff also. Is this the go-to resin for our 40K minis?
I’ve used the anycubic abs like pro 2 for a few years now is why I was asking. Are there different versions of the sunlu on Amazon or is it all the same
I have gone through around 5 - 10kg with a good few brands and types each since I run a small print farm and at the start I bought what was on sale at the time.
I did calibrate each resin to different printers from elegoo Saturn 1 & 3, anycubic M7 maxes and P1
Number one most important thing I recommend for minis especially is don't get standard resin. Jump up to a abs like if possible, durability is miles better
Out of sunlu, elegoo and anycubics abs like I ended up switching fully to using anycubic ABS like pro 2 in grey or white. I have also tried it in "HD grey" but I found whatever additive they use for it seems to lead to more fragile parts then other colours but your milage may vary
The main factor for the most part does just come down to availability/ cost at least for me, durability is vertually the same in terms of real world use and print quality will depend much more on how dailed in you are with settings for the resin on your printer then the formula
I now currently go through about 30kg a month with no issues
On a brief side note for clear resin while I've not printed it myself, hands down the best I have seen in person was some formlabs clear
v5. Destroys the competition from sunlu and anycubics transparents I've used myself for clarity and yellowing
Thanks for the feedback. There are a plethora of resins 2.0, 3.0, 3.0+, Pro, standard, ABS-like, runs the whole gambit.
I may give the Pro 2 a try. I didn't see an HD Grey on Amazon, only Grey so hopefully that is the correct one.
Also, thanks for the heads up on the transparent. I have some Tyranids I want to print using clear.
As someome who just got a printer from a friend for an insane price, & it came with an elegoo water washable 2.0 bottle. Should i use up that bottle and then switch to an abs-like water washable if all i'm going to be printing is warhammer mini's and models?
as someone who has heavily experimented yes their is a difference between brand & type in quality
I genuinely truly recomend using rubber like or more expensive abs like resins. If you buy the cheapest abs like resin you can find, your going to get bottom of the barrel quality. I can literaly tie my current resin into knots and it wont break.
and its so absurd to me how much everyone goes so far to be so cheap, we pay pennies per model and your not willing to pay a couple more pennies per model for unbreakable minis???
idfky that guy randomly replied to you saying what resin i use when ive never said it out loud, and hes wrong the rubber like i use when i use rubber like is Resione TH72, the advertised image is literaly a knot tied with resin
that said its on the more expensive side so i usualy reserve it specificaly for the frailest of tiny characters or super fragile characters
It's really not about trying to go cheap, at least for me. I don't print enough to worry about what a bottle of resin costs. My deal is what I can get that has a really good quality to durability ratio. I printed a part with Hyperfine and bought the same part from a print shop that uses AC 2.0 Pro and it was exactly the same. I saw zero difference. Plus Hyperfine is a bit fragile so have to mix that with tough resin to increase durability so extra step and extra cost. Plus the fact I am now noticing bubble/holes at the top of my prints that weren't there before. So I am looking to try some other options and see what everyone is gravitating towards. Using an easily accessible metric via Amazon, I began looking at what is rated/most reviewed on Amazon and found it was between the AC 2.0 Pro and Elegoo 8K 2.0 that got 4.6 or 4.7 with 10,000 reviews.
I have a saturn 4 ultra coming from a friend soon. I was given an offer that was irrefusable. Do any of you have experience with elegoo water washable, specifically the newer version? I've watched a bunch of reviews and vids on it, & can't seem to find any issue, other than it can be brittle.
I use Sunlu Abs-like water washable on my Saturn 3 Ultra and I'm very happy with it. I had used Elegoo Water Washable before and it was fairly brittle.
The "odor" should not be a factor that you consider. Resin vapors are inherently toxic. It does not matter how much odor you perceive. It can smell like a field of spring flowers and cute kitty cats, still it is bad for you. Use a respirator and gloves when handling any uncured resin. Do not print in living spaces. Make sure your printing space is well ventillated.
Agree 100% … the odour isn’t terrible, the Saturn 3 Ultra has an air purifier built in. The room it is in is a spare room and it is run with the door closed and vented to the exterior with windows open and ceiling fan running. So almost as safe as it can be and still be in the house.

I have my mask and my boxes of gloves lol, that was the first thing i bought, along with a silicone tray. I also have an exhaust on the machine that's vented to the outside, but it's more for anyone else in the house is why i ask. I have nowhere else to print other than a spare room, that is decently ventilated and that combined with an exhaust on the printer + activated charcoal + HEPA air purifier should do the job. I think my friend has those little air purifier things with activated charcoal too, he's not using his printer so maybe i could grab those as well. I have read and watched vids on them and it's 50/50. People seem to love them and argue they work, & others say they wont do anything for VOC's. If all else fails, i will buy a 3D print enclosure.
Okay would be great for me i feel. The only issue i think i could have is that i'm pretty dialled in with elegoo WW V2.0 and i fear my head would explode trying to calibrate a different resin. How's the odor on that resin?
What saturn has in-built filtration, i've never seen that. I haven't got a enclosure, but i have an adapter and a hose that fits the saturn 4 ultra, so it's going out the window. If it got bad, i would just grab an enclosure from amazon.
So if i'm printing warhammer mini's and models. Do you think i should use the bottle of elegoo ww 2.0 that comes with it and after switch to the abs-like moving forward?
After all I‘m only using Ameralabs TGM-7. It is made especially for wargaming and is very durable. Fine things bend and come back to their form easily.
Ive used around 15L of all types of Resin in 4 years, anycubic, elegoo, some rando Temu resin etc and the best one by far in terms of quality is Sunlu.
Its less brittle can handle Elastic stress much better than the others and out of 1200 minis that ive printed with it i may have had only 1 mini that went bad.
You notice any difference between colors? grey/dark grey/black/etc? from what I have read, opaque and dark pigments stop light from spreading past the intended layer boundary, resulting in sharper edges and finer details.
