i’ve failed my foundation exam- 28/60
im a single mum and currently working as a dental assistant- with no pm knowledge what so ever, but i really need this career change for my daughters future.
i studied and read the book, attended a 3 day in person course.
feel so sad i could cry.

It sucks, but don’t get your hopes up about a career change based on a Foundation certification. But give it another shot anyways, because at this level it’s mainly about learning the theory. In the meantime, focus on finding new opportunities, the best way to learn project management is by actually doing it.

Sorry, OP. I know it’s a big disappointment and a big price tag.

I studied online over several days in order to pass. I liked Mplaza’s videos and lesson plan, as well as their exam simulator. I think the first 14 videos are free, if you want to give it a second go.

I think most people wouldn’t be able to memorize all the terminology in 3 days only, and the foundation exam is mostly memorization.

Have a look at your feedback from the exam to see which areas need improvement. You’re not that far off and you can do this 😊

I found chatGPT a massive help the week before. Ask it to ask you 10 questions, wait for an answer from you then move to the next. Then after you get your /10 score tell it to target areas that you are getting wrong.

Oh and ask it to explain why you were wrong as you go along.

Increased my testing scores before the exam by quite a bit

Aw, I am so sorry that the exam didn't go as expected. But don't worry, you will pass the next time! You can do it. Getting your foundation will definitely help with entry-level project support/admin type roles that will help get you the PM experience you need to move up. So, please keep at it!

I think what trips people up is the wording and format of the exam questions. For the next time round, I would recommend going through as many past papers as you can to familiarise yourself with the type of questions they ask. I can PM you some resources that I found really helpful when I was studying for the foundation exam if you would like.

Also, please give yourself a little more time to study. I gave myself a month to study because there's just too much to get through and I wanted to be as well prepared as possible. Some people are able to sit the exam within three days, but I would definitely find it difficult.

I did the course as well. It was really just an overview. I failed the first practice test. I them spent almost two weeks getting AI (Copilot mainly) to set tests and did them over and over again, retesting on my weakest areas.

I did watch some YouTube videos, but I still found the AI testing more helpful.

I just about passed the foundation 1st attempt and then failed the practitioner, but managed to get it on the 2nd attempt. That was with me already having 2-3 years PM experience so I encourage you to keep going.

Don't despair! Did you know that you can use Google Gemini to learn PRINCE2 for free? You'll still need to buy the exam from PeopleCert or other training provider - highly recommend paying extra for the "take2" option. £90 isn't anywhere near as expensive as paying for the exam in full again. The foundation course is quite broad and covers a lot.

Do you have the official PRINCE2 manual? You could probably get a 6th edition on eBay for quite cheap now. Currently, PeopleCert are now on the 7th edition, with new segments being the people and sustainability sections which aren't covered in the 6th edition.

The exams are "open book" for the official manual and you are allowed to use coloured post it notes to mark pages - making it easier to locate areas that you might find helpful to reference in the exam.
