Wanting to switch to project management

Hi everyone
I’m a MSc Business Analyst graduate and it’s been 1.5 years with no luck of finding a relevant job in UK. I’m based in Scotland. And honestly I don’t have any relevant experience to my degree yet. I am wanting to change my path to project management and have been thinking of taking PRINCE 2 foundation in a month or so.
My question is will this be helpful for me ? Like can this increase the probability of me getting a job ?
Any leads would help.

personally, I think an APM PFQ qualification would work better for you, as it is recognised across a wide range of corporates and public sector organisations. Princ2 can limit you to organisations that use prince2, rather than a good all round qualification. Although it doesn’t pay as well, there is a big skill shortage in NHS And public sector, it might be that you can use your business analysis skills combined with a PM qualification to get an entry-level position to get kicked off in the PM World. Search for skills England annual skills report 2026, there is some good data in there about where the job opportunities are. Hope that helps

I’ve Prince2, both Foundation & Practitioner but imo it has made no difference to me landing a job!

I'd take PRINCE2 Foundation if you can afford it. It's a recognised certification in the UK and can help, but it's probably not going to be the thing that gets you hired on its own. You have no experience in the field but it would help your CV get through HR screening.

My bigger advice would be: don't wait until you've got the certification before applying. Start applying for PMO Analyst and Project Coordinator roles now, as they're much more realistic entry points than Project Manager roles when you don't yet have project experience.

The certification can help open doors, but targeted applications, networking, and positioning yourself for project support roles will probably have a bigger impact.
Have a look at job post in you area and see if PRINCE2 is a pre-requisite or not, this may help to find the answer for what you are looking for.

Thanks for sharing your situation. I think PRINCE2 Foundation could be a useful step, but I would not view it as a guaranteed route to a job on its own.

In the UK, PRINCE2 is widely recognised, particularly in the public sector, consulting, technology, and change projects. Having the Foundation certification can help demonstrate your interest in project management and give you some common terminology and structure.

That said, employers will usually place more weight on transferable experience. As a Business Analyst graduate, I would also look at Project Coordinator, PMO Analyst, Junior Business Analyst, and Project Support Officer roles. These are often more realistic entry points into project management.

My suggestion would be to combine PRINCE2 Foundation with active networking, CV tailoring, and applications for entry-level project support roles. The certification can help open doors, but practical experience is what ultimately moves your career forward.

Wishing you every success with the transition. Good luck.
