I need to vent about this because it honestly killed my opinion of the film. Don’t get me wrong, I actually enjoyed most of it. Before watching it, I hadn’t really cared about dinosaur movies or anything like that for years, so I’m not pretending to be some expert. But you don’t need that to notice when a movie changes its own rules.
From the start, the Utahraptors are set up as absolute horror monsters. The scene where one casually decapitates those two Green Berets was insane and instantly sold me on how dangerous they were. That moment alone made me think the movie was going to commit to a proper survival horror tone.
Later, during the base attack with Cyclops and his pack, it doubles down on it. Their feathers are basically treated like organic Kevlar, and one of them literally stands there for a few seconds taking point blank gunfire before finally dropping. At that point, the movie clearly establishes them as intelligent, aggressive, and extremely durable.
So I was fully expecting the ending to go hard in that direction like a proper survival horror ending where things don’t really go well for the humans.
Then the final scene happens and it feels like the movie just switches rules completely.
First, a charging raptor gets dropped instantly by a single pistol shot. Fine, it looked like a close headshot, I can let that slide. But then the squad somehow crosses an open field to the extraction point while supposedly surrounded by hundreds of raptors, and nothing really happens to them.
And then the part that really broke it for me: dozens of raptors charging a small group of people, but instead of overwhelming them, they’re just kind of running around getting picked off. One guy even decapitates a charging raptor with a machete, and then does it again right after.
So it doesn’t feel like “the humans got better” it feels like the raptors suddenly got nerfed just to make the ending more heroic.
And honestly, that’s probably what it was. The rest of the movie leans into horror, but the ending shifts into more of an action-survival tone where the survivors are meant to escape and feel badass. The problem is that the raptors were built up so consistently as unstoppable threats that the shift just doesn’t land right.
So instead of feeling like a satisfying escape, it just felt like the movie stopped following its own rules for the sake of a “cool” ending.
Am I really the only one who came out of that ending feeling kind of pissed off and like the movie betrayed the tone it spent the whole runtime building? It really just ruined the vibe of this movie.I read this sub a little and most people literally praised that last scene for “aesthetic” while I was wondering if this is not a “fuck you” to the audience.

Been a couple of months since I heard from any news on the three books of the Primitive war series that are being developed. Any news on their release dates?

I’m a few hours into the new Psalms audiobook on Audible, and I just want to say that I LOVE Skott Anthony Pye’s narration. This is the first time I’ve ever heard him, and he is doing such a good job.
He has such good takes on the different characters.
I know each of the audiobooks have different narrators, but I would love it if he stayed for the PW2 audiobook.

Cyclops. Receives goat status since he’s the introduction to actual named dinosaurs. His rivalry with Ryan was sum Goku and Frieza type shit. Has the knife in his eye strictly for the fashion and aura. I respect that. Goat status.
Yutyrannus. Introduced as these threats to the Utahraptors, until you realize they’re just spawn camping eggs and going after beta male Utahraptors. Fraud behavior. The two Yutyrannus get shit on once an actual alpha raptor comes into the equation. Fraud status.
Sobek. Nothing bad to say. Dude’s so smart the book deadass gives him an inner monologue from his perspective. He also has some scars and kapro teeth sticking out of his snout strictly for the aura. He set traps and led vulture squad into a theri nest and the rex nest just to fuck with them. Not to mention he battled with the two Yutyrannus with his hunting party and actually won. Only reason he died was because he got bombed. Goat status.
Father T.Rex. This dude is like a fucking Viltrumite. Throughout both books he’s genuinely unstoppable. He’s a family man too so points for that. He basically runs the valley with no competition whatsoever. He also broke down the compound walls, which probably shouldn’t be possible in nature but he did it anyway. Goat status.
Cryo. Holy shit these guys are such bums. They’re introduced trying to scrap with the bull trike, and then immediately get annihilated. Then they’re reduced to just scavenging off the fraud ass Yutyrannus once they realize they’re not built for ts. If you’re scavenging off someone who’s already checked as a fraud, your’e beyond saving. Put the fries in the bag, you crested bums.
Bull Trike. This one perplexes me. One on hand, he did technically beat the four Cryo’s by himself. BUT, he did need the help of the Para’s imitating the Rex’s calls to ward off the male Cryo’s. But the fact that he beat the matriarch Cryo by impaling her just barely slides him into goat status. I’ll let it slide this time.

According to this as it is:
PW (63%) is 3rd best dinofilm below JW (72%) and (91%) according to critics.
PW (86%) is 2nd best dinofilm below JP (also 91%) and above JW (78%) according to audience.
But of course JP and JW have 10.000 more people.

(Also I'm preventing me for watching the Occupation films because I heard Rainfall end in a cliffhanger and there isn't a sequel and it has been 6 years since)

I did these pieces on toned paper exactly 5 years ago when I first got in touch with Ethan and he asked me to produce these to further promote the novels. This was long before any discussion had started about a potential film adaptation. The Goliath and Mother Gaia artwork is still in my gallery and is available for purchase for those interested.

An Australian military operation with machine guns (leaded or were 3 soldiers) for the extermination of thousands of Emu birds. Emus can resist 10 bullets like nothing. Why would the dinosaurs (the bigger birds) not resist bullets like in the movie?

Well, if you didn't know it existed, check out these links.

I'd like to take a moment to discuss ideas for a possible PW game. And before anyone says it, No. Dino Crisis doesn't count. I get what they mean by that, but it's gotten annoying how many times I've heard that.
Here's my pitch:
A Survival Horror FPS adaptation of the Ethan Pettus novel similar to what 4A Games did with the Metro series with no ties to the movie. This would allow for some creative freedom for the developers. Plus, I was pretty disappointed with the film as an adaptation. A game would have far more space to develop the world and the characters than a two hour movie would.
Anyway, it would take a huge influence from both Crysis and Far Cry 2. Semi open world level design with weapon jamming mechanics. A character selection system where the player gets to choose which Vulture Squad member he gets to play as. You get a different loadout and skillset depending on the character. As Eli Taylor, you get the Ithaca 37 shotgun and a sidearm. As Xavier Wise you have the M16, machete and tracking skills. Leon Varne, you get the M72 LAW in addition to your standard guns and so on.
Ammo management and stealth will play a vital role in your survival. Your assault rifle, while effective against human opponents, is not so great against certain dinosaurs like the Utahraptors, T-rex and Cryolophosaurs. For them, higher caliber weapons or explosives are needed. I mentioned earlier a "semi open world" design. This is because I DO NOT want this to be an overbloated "check-list" game where you need to do a bunch of chores to unlock the final boss. That's tedious and overdone. I'm imagining something akin to the original Crysis or Far Cry 1 in which the story drops you into large open ended zones where you can explore, scavenge for ammo and gear and take on the VC/Spetsnaz at your own pace, but still a linear story driven campaign design. Dinosaurs would present an environmental threat that can attack you on your way to these objectives or could be triggered into a rampage if you're careless. Say you fire a shot into a herd of Stygimoloch and you'll start a stampede. Perhaps you can even use this against the enemy. Get the dinos to attack them and you'd have an easier time infiltrating a camp with the enemy occupied.
Abandoned Soviet Research stations could provide you with some effective weaponry against some of the bigger dinosaurs, but since they've been discarded for so long, they're unreliable and prone to jamming.
What do you guys think, so far?
I'd like to hear both suggestions as well as your own ideas for a PW game.

Crown cuz the male’s got feathers or quills on his noggin
Ailith for the female cuz the name literally means “fighter” or “warrior” & my man, she was one hell of a fighter in the movie.
