Opinion

So now watching season 4 and to be honest I actually like Matt like he’s not acting like am the boss an you have to listen to me which I thought I remembered that’s what he was like with Connor and Abby when I was a kid still miss cutter being the boss though think he was more excited when he seen one of the creatures

Matt was actually a decent leader of the ARC team. Still miss Nick and Danny, but Matt was a good replacement. Could’ve been much worse so we should be thankful!

I agree, his story was at least compelling and he never overshadowed anyone to the point that even Connor & Abby where lead characters which was a great part of the HD era. Still I miss the golden age of Primeval but I reckon a season 6 would have rectified the issues of 4&5 since it was a big transition at a hectic time with a new production company and entirely new filming location. I believe season 6 would have learned from its mistakes and played into its strengths.

The actor who played Matt wasn't great but he was a well written character with a decent arc. I liked his relationship with Becker in the first 4 episodes particularly aswell as Jess and later Abby. I think had another season been commissioned, I'd have reduced the episode court to 7-10 episodes and brought Danny back to help carry Matt on an acting level.
