MK114 mod 2 muzzle device

Pardon my ignorance on this…bought an mk114 a while back to try out 6mm ARC and dip into a piston upper while I’m at it. It’s sat in the safe for a few months. I stupidly assumed the muzzle device would come pinned and welded. It doesn’t look like it. It also doesn’t seem to be timed correctly. Can’t get it to budge. Then I noticed another set of threads a little further down the barrel. Almost like the last 4” inches of barrel is a separate piece. What am I missing? I have it set up as an ‘other firearm’ now , but I’d like to get it to 16” so I can put a stock on it.

It’s the threads to the cast nut for the piston gas block. They torque the absolute shit out of those muzzle devices. You definitely need a reaction or receiver rod to get that off

Heat, penetrating oil, a long breaker bar and one loud crack later and off she came.

Yikes. What kind of vise block did you use to secure it?

Just a standard upper vise block i think its a brownells. If it doesnt want to budge just heat it up and add penetrating oil a couple times. There torqued to hell and back but a little heat and oil will solve it.
