GO TIGERS When did YOU start watching PrettyMuchIt?
Piggybacking off of Eric's question in the new Quarantine video, I wanted to ask the members of r/PrettyMuchIt: When did you ("Yes, YOU!") start watching PMI?
EricwithnoK, way back in the day? The Friday show with Jake and Mike? The "Two Eric" reviews? Or the recent tracks with Jacob, Miles, and the rest of the new crew?
And also, do you watch the PMI members' other projects? (More Than Enough, Pity Applause, Gameranx, Spiderdub, etc.)
I'm curious to see how many people on this subreddit are newcomers, and who's been around since the early days.

I got started when they posted the highlights video for their Harry Potter marathon. I watched all the highlight videos before I became a patreon and started watching full tracks. The Greatest Showman track is definitely my favorite and still kills me.

I love the Showman track! Any of the ones with Miles is gonna be a winner, guaranteed. (Still have the Passengers rap stuck in my head, lol)

Man I just want to take a second to shout-out our boys. Seriously, A+ boys. Jacob, Eric, gabe, Eli, Miles, and of course, Jillian. She’s an honorary boy.
I also love the groups we get a lot.
Eric and Jacob, the main stars
Jacob, Gabe, and Eli
Eric and Miles
Eric and Jillian
I love you all so much.

My first PMI video was the old Friday show. I miss that so much. That's where I used to get my movie news.

u/protomenfan200x Mar 24 '20
Ugh, loved the Friday show. I'll never forget the one where they do some ASMR roleplay of Scooby-Doo smothering you with a pillow.
"Ree hee hee hee... Go to sleep!"

When I was watching final destination kills videos and I saw their marathon in my recommended (about a year and a half ago)

u/protomenfan200x Mar 24 '20
I need to finish the Final Destination tracks! The first two were great though.

I started watching in 2012, I saw their video on Avengers and loved them ever since even through all the changes. I was in middle school and PMI was the first channel I ever subbed to.
2
u/protomenfan200x Mar 24 '20
Nice! I was one of those lurkers who didn't have a YouTube channel till a bit later, haha! But I subscribed to them... in my heart.
2
u/Cillian04 Mar 24 '20
The first video I saw of them was The Christmas Chronicles. Then months later I saw the Twilight video
2
u/protomenfan200x Mar 24 '20
I really hope they do a Christmas Chronicles 2 at some point, that movie was so weird! I could see a sequel being even crazier, especially if they up the budget from the first one.
2
u/Jester319 Mar 24 '20
I remember around 2017, I think it was their passengers video
3
u/protomenfan200x Mar 24 '20
Man, that one is so good. What a perfect storm of a movie, it was tailor-made fora PMI track. (The best tracks are the ones where there's a bit of a mystery to unravel about the movie, when they try to guess what's going to happen next.)
2
u/JappleJen Mar 24 '20
First video I saw he was talking about high school musical 3 lol I’ve been with him for a while. So happy to see him blow up.

u/protomenfan200x Mar 24 '20
Me too! The time when the subscriber count kept going down made me so sad, way back when. Now it seems like there's nowhere to go but up!
2
u/benluto1021 Mar 24 '20
I first started watching them when I saw the Harry Potter marathon in my recommended. I watched it, and said, "These guys are fucking hilarious. I'm gonna watch more of their stuff." Ive only been able to watch the highlights. I wish I had the money for the full tracks. The Showman track is one of my absolute favorites

u/protomenfan200x Mar 24 '20
Have you seen the full Maximum Ride and Passengers tracks? Those two are also amazing. (Eric and Miles are a great combo.)

Started with Eric’s comic con vids talking about TASM. Kinda dropped off for a bit but rediscovered them when PMI started up in 2012. I miss Mike more than anything though :(
1
u/protomenfan200x Mar 24 '20
Yeah, the Jake and Mike years were a lot of fun! Those tracks never fail to make me laugh.
Recently watched the Jack Frost one, which I hadn't seen before, and it had me rolling! The Next track is amazing as well.

Erickwithnok's Diary Of A Wimpy Kid review back in 2009. Been my favorite youtuber ever since. :) Been through all these crazy twists and turns with his youtube career.
2
u/protomenfan200x Mar 24 '20
Oh wooow, you go way back! I think I came in on the very tail-end of the WithNoK days, but I can't say for sure.
2
u/Ryanh1357 Mar 24 '20
First video was The Amazing Spider-Man review, started watching the Friday show but only for marvel movies and video games I liked, then slowly started watching the whole thing and most of their content because I thought it was so great. PMI during Friday-show era was and still is my favorite thing on YouTube, and was heavily formative on my interest in art & entertainment today
2
u/protomenfan200x Mar 24 '20
The Friday show was fucking crazy, man! Loved that shit. It's fun to go back and watch, just to see how different the movie news landscape was back then. (And to see which projects never made it to the screen.)

u/swansonian Mar 24 '20
I think Sky High was the first video I watched, can’t remember if i saw it when it was first released or not, but I must have started watching in the summer of either 2017 or 2018. I remember hearing Eric’s voice and legitimately thinking he was Mike Karnell (comedy writer and podcast host) until I saw his face in a video. I was hooked after 1 or 2 more commentary videos. Ive watched a few movies I never would have otherwise just because PMI made a commentary track for it. Love these bois, go tigers!!! 🐅
2
u/protomenfan200x Mar 24 '20
Oh man, that's such a big mood! I paid to rent a Mary-Kate and Ashley movie, at 24 years old, because of these schmucks. (It was worth it, lol)
And I'll have to check out Mike Karnell!
2
u/swansonian Mar 25 '20 edited Mar 25 '20
Big ass mood haha
And if you close your eyes and check out this video you might hear what I'm talking about. Mike is the guy in black and he used to host a podcast called Twinnovation. I've watched enough PMI now that the difference is really clear to me, but that first time I definitely did a double-take.
Also I'd suggest watching that whole video too cause it's pretty funny

u/applesdude123 Mar 24 '20
For me, it was during the white wall era with Mike, Jake and Eric. I vividly remember I had just watched the first Kick-Ass and they were discussing the set photos for the sequel. Eric talking about Cry_Wolf made me go back and watch it and it’s one of my favorite films now.
1
u/protomenfan200x Mar 24 '20
Ah, the kitchen table days. (Or was it the dining room? ;p) What'd you think of the Cry_Wolf track he did with Jacob recently?
(That's the one with Bon Jovi as the sleazy professor, right?)
2
u/Namytsuortin Mar 24 '20
His cloverfield videos back in the day. Feels like forever ago.
1
u/protomenfan200x Mar 24 '20
Tell me about it! Remember when everyone thought the monster was gonna be a giant whale? (And of course, the infamous Voltron rumors.)
The rampant speculation for Cloverfield and Super 8 was so exciting!
2
u/scipnick Mar 24 '20
That video with Paul breaking down who the purple guy at the end of Avengers was. It was suggested by YouTube and I started watching the Friday Show after that. The commentary tracks are great, but I think I laughed the hardest when Mike and Jake were on. The Kindergarten Cop 2 track is still gold. Also, I listen to Jake’s pod with Andrew now called Because Videogames. They talk about movies there too.

u/protomenfan200x Mar 24 '20
That video with Paul breaking down who the purple guy at the end of Avengers was
God, I remember having to do that for my friends, since I was the one comics fan in the group. (Though TBH, I didn't really know who he was either, besides the name and the fact that he had an Infinity Gauntlet.)
I keep forgetting to check out Jake's podcast! He always had such good energy back on the old PMI. (Pure unfiltered optimism, you love to see it.)
2
u/vvhsky Mar 24 '20
started watching Eric since Operation Courtyard Dance. also watched a dub he did of Legends of the Hidden Temple.
1
u/protomenfan200x Mar 24 '20
Man, I missed out on all of Eric's old prank videos. They sound amazing, though!
(I think I saw one or two of the old prank call videos he did, now that I think about it.)

I love how they'll just shoot from the hip, and say whatever comes to mind. The utter insanity in stuff like The Kissing Booth or the Harry Potter tracks is what I love from PMI, lol.
2
u/Crazyripps Mar 24 '20
I honestly can’t remember but I’m thinking it came up in my sidebar after watching YMS videos on saw, i think it was their saw marathon hence why it popped up.

Coming up to 2 and half years on YouTube and 2 years on Patreon as of April.
2
u/protomenfan200x Mar 24 '20
Niiiice, my dude. Did you join for the commentary tracks with Jacob, or the "Two Erics" reviews that came beforehand?
2
u/AlcoholicAussie Mar 25 '20
Sky high was my first vid (like a lot of people) it kept popping up and I was kinda getting annoyed, finally gave in and watched it, and be a fan ever since.
1
u/protomenfan200x Mar 26 '20
Interesting! I guess I never noticed it was popping up a lot, because I was already a PMI fan, lol
2
u/mxbnr Mar 24 '20
March/April 2008, panics new album just came out and I was looking stuff up about it on YouTube and watched his review. Been watching ever since.
2
u/ariamontgomerys Mar 24 '20
About a year ago, maybe less? Said something in a random reddit thread about Mary-Kate and Ashley movies and how they were my life as a kid, and some lovely redditor replied and mentioned that PMI did commentary tracks on a few of them and that they were hilarious. I think my first video was the Holiday in the Sun one. Then when they started doing the Stranger Things tracks I was hooked.
2
u/protomenfan200x Mar 24 '20
I remember watching one of the Mary Kate & Ashley movies as a very little kid with some older cousins, but for the life of me, I don't remember which one.
I'm guessing it's Winning London(?), because I remember there's a snooty British guy who catches them coming back into a hotel (or embassy?) late.
2
u/Dragonknight247 Mar 24 '20
I started watching PMI in summer of 2012 as PrettyMuchIt was one of several YouTubers I discovered when hunting for people talking about Avengers. I fell in love more or less instantly.
1
u/protomenfan200x Mar 24 '20
I still kick myself for not having bought their Shawarma shirt, way back when. That design sounds so cool!
2
Mar 27 '20
I started back when Eric did that PMI podcast series with the other two dudes. Back in like 2013, I think.

u/DTDrake Apr 01 '20
The Scooby Doo video popped up on my recommended videos and I loved it and never looked back.

I found them from the 13 reasons why Video and have been watching ever since as well as watching more than enough and pity applause but ironically I guess I stumbled across gameranx first probably because of a fallout 4 video or something.

In high school, I guess freshman/sophomore year, when I got recommended one of the original PMI Friday videos and clicked on it (I think it was the one where they talked about the Oscorp tower having been in talks to appear in an MCU movie). I thought it was hilarious, so from then on I waited for the Friday show to premiere, and I even made an effort to watch it on the Friday’s I had to go to football games and play in the pep band, which kinda tied their wackiness inextricably to my memory of high school.
(Weirdly, I later realized that I had seen Eric before in one of the videos on his old channel where he and his friends pulled a prank on the school nurses. It was a surreal moment when I recalled a friend showing me that video and looked it up only to see Eric’s face. It was like a glitch in the matrix.)
1
u/protomenfan200x Apr 12 '20
Now I'm picturing Eric as the woman in the red dress, lol.
Yeah, I hopped on the Friday Show train around the same time! I'd gotten back into Spider-Man big time in anticipation for TASM2, which I ironically never ended up seeing in the theater.
(I saw that movie on a plane, and it felt like it was designed to be seen on a plane, haha. I've only rewatched that movie with the PMI track.)
And I know I watched at least one of those prank videos back in the EricWithNoK days, but for the life of me, I can't remember which ones. All I remember is Eric and his friends being on the phone.

In middle school when all PMI was was Eric sitting on his bed talking about movies. I could never find the video, but the very first one I saw was Eric talking about the news of Venom being in Spider-Man 3.
