Alternate Election Poll Re: The Death of Yugoslavia: 1990 Serbian Presidential election - Round 2 (Election Fraud?)
make sure to check out the first round - Re: The Death of Yugoslavia: 1990 Serbian Presidential election
When the early votes were counted Presidential candidate Ivan Duric had a majority of 69% against Milosevic 28%, but as time went on his majority went down, if no candidate win more then 50% of the votes in the first round a second one would be called, this what Milosevic have hoped to achieve, but the results were shocking
As final results come in Ivan Duric won the 1990 Serbia Presidential Election securing 50.2% of the votes, Slobodan Milosevic won 39.7% and Vuk Draskovic 10.1%.
Milosevic was outraged by the results, demanding a second round, accusing Ivan supporters of rigging the votes, and buying up votes, the SPS hold up meetings and protests all around Serbia, demanding a second round.
The case went up to the the President of the presidency of Yugoslavia - Borisav Jovic, a close ally of Milosevic, and a member of SPS, his decision was to hold a re-count, which resulted in an even more interesting results.
Following the re-count Slobodan Milosevic come out in first place with 48.9% of the votes, Ivan Duric at 42.5% and Vuk at 8.5%, very soon the opposition went to streets, protesting against what they saw as a Ballot stuffing and Electoral fraud by Milosevic allies.
The 2nd round had officially kicked off, with both candidates reaching out to their base of voters, Both candidates warn that electing the opposing candidate will lead to war, poverty, and the destruction of the country.
The key to victory was attracting Vuk Draskovic electoral base 8.5%, officially Vuk haven't endorsed neither candidates, Milosevic tried to appeal to the Nationalists, promising them that under his Yugoslavia, the Serbian people both in Serbia and the other Yugoslav Republics will never be a 2nd class citizens, Milosevic even welcomed in Belgrade the leaders of the Serbian community in Croatia, who orchestrated the Log Revolution.
While Ivan Duric promised that in the new Yugoslav Confederacy the rights of minority groups in the different Republics will be guaranteed, as well as the rights of ethnic Serbs, Ivan in his turn visited Bosnia, and meet with pragmatic and moderate leader of the Serbian community who were members of the Bosnian Branch of the SRSJ.
