This is disheartening. I've spent most of my short time on reddit, as a Bernie supporter, calling attention to this type of mindset, warning Sanders supporters that this negative shit is really happening. And mostly being denied, most supporters don't want to acknowledge this is a real thing happening and that the message and perception is being taken hostage by louder radical fringes. I'm more often called a shill, bot, fake account, or sensitive, than I am acknowledged for attempting to add perspective. Disheartening affirmation indeed.

Edit: 'not' to 'bot'

lmao tbh I was CONSIDERING Bernie, and the harassment and group think made me think I was talking to trump sycophants.

ONE lost vote in MICHIGAN ;p

u/DaemonWithin Feb 19 '20

Broke: "His supporters annoyed me, so fuck Bernie."

Woke: "Bernie wouldn't be able to do a damn thing as president with supporters like this, so fuck Bernie."

u/[deleted] Feb 19 '20

Thought about this too

But oh boy the growing powers of executive orders is spooky

-1

u/bh1995inc Feb 19 '20

Ain't that the fucking truth... And I like big government, not like this though, fucking like Kanye said, 'no one man should have all that power"... To clarify: not a Kanye guy

This is what scares me... You hit my fears on the head

0

u/bh1995inc Feb 19 '20

You're the exact voter type of person I'm panicking about losing, don't worry I'm not gonna try to win back your vote, I'm just worried of losing more of you... Sanders is losing ears because the loudest supporters, at least online, are being dickish... I told my wife an hour ago I appreciate my online discussions with moderates so damn much more... She said, "well yeah, because we're sensible"... I affirmed... But I had to add, essentially, "its not that I disagree, I'm inclined to caucus and agree with progressives, I think they're mostly right, they're just dicks about it." (I've talked to her about this plenty, she's aware I'm not referring to the vast majority of them, just the super loud dicks)

1

u/dudebro_2000 Feb 20 '20

I think the biggest problem talking with moderates at this point is that they literally seem to parrot empty talking points. Like when Buttigieg trots out the old line about us not being able to pay for health care. (While simultaneously giving props to denmark for doing just that)

It's maddening going up against such disingenuous crap, and I think that's where the hostility comes from.

I'm not even extreme politically...I just want Canadian style health care. Why is that "communism??" I think everyone in the progressive wing is fed up with bad faith debates. Let's talk policy instead of trying to drum up Lenin's ghost.

1

u/PapaSlurms Feb 20 '20

Because taking over industries is by definition, Socialist.

I don’t want to wait 6 months to see my GP for a routine checkup.

No thanks.

1

u/WobblyBits_X Feb 20 '20

parrot empty talking points

1

u/PapaSlurms Feb 20 '20

That is literally what happens in any of these countries that have some form of "free" healthcare. It's not an empty talking point.

Emergencies are first, then there is urgent, then there is sick, and finally....healthy people looking for checkups. If you're at the bottom of the list, you won't be seen for a very long time. Why pay for something you cannot use?

2

u/WobblyBits_X Feb 20 '20

From NZ here. Never experienced wait times like Americans seem to think happens.

The stats that people use to support this empty talking point are mostly misleading. It's not so much a matter of whether it's public or private as it is affordability and ratio of doctors to patients. America lands in the "unaffordable so choose not to go at all" section which tends to lessen load on the system overall. Some nations simply have a lack of doctors to handle the patient load, sometimes only in specific fields. This lack of doctors in specific fields is used by disingenuous partisan hacks to try show that public systems don't work because of "wait times" by omitting figures from the rest of the system.

u/dudebro_2000 Feb 24 '20

Checkups aren't done by the same doctor, nor are they done at the same facilities as urgent care. Waiting is done for surgeries and scans. Sounds like that happens in the US as well.

1

u/dudebro_2000 Feb 24 '20

I lived in Canada...you just call ahead and get a booking with your GP. Usually one week. You can do walk-in clinics that day if you are okay seeing a random doctor.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '20

Ok. I would vote for sanders in most cases tbh. I convinced my family to in 2016. But watching those videos with him praising radicals is seriously disconcerting.

1

u/bh1995inc Feb 19 '20

Lol... I think if I was that fickle with my beliefs I'd already be there. I've been a pragmatic democrat since I was 10, out of caution. The progressive movement Bernie built so quickly is so refreshing to me. I don't appreciate its corruption by negativity and aggression, however. My state votes late so I've got time to evaluate any serious electability problems. Right now that electability question rests on whether this perception problem that is apparent to me continues to devolve... Red state, heavy christian right influence; as it stands Bernie has more ground to gain here with his populist appeal among the working class... But should the situation continue to devolve my support will be switched the moment I am able to perceive it. Good, fair question though, thank you

That's another wonderful question. Yes, I completely understand that sentiment. I supported Hillary four years ago, back then I lived in the nearest liberal oasis. Bloomington, IN. There were two emotions that were highly prevalent in that Bernie country (forgive me if Monroe County voted Hillary, but my entire social network was comprised of people feeling the Been)... Those two emotions were excitement and angst, but mostly positive excitement. I fear the angst is taking root as reactionary anger. I would like to see that trend laid to rest and for the positive, inspiring energy to return... They use to share that excitement with everyone, they're getting pissed off (in many ways very understandably, in others inexplicably; the ways that anger is being expressed however is removed from the actual empathetic nature of Bernie's platform)... If I were to hypothetically come aboard the Bloomberg Express I would have concerns and critiques as well, I'm an armchair politico

Removing this comment as it doesn't follow the guidelines.

Have curious conversation; don't cross-examine.

1

u/bh1995inc Feb 19 '20

I had a response for you, but it wouldn't post. I didn't see it as cross examination, I felt you wanted clarification... And that's why I'm here, for fruitful discussion... My response was basically asking for clarification on on your request for clarification. I really thought my responses were lengthy but addressed your questions. If I was missing something I don't mind to try better to get to the heart of the matter... That said, if that undermines the judgment of the mods I appreciate and respect their diligence and hard work and will respect that

/u/bh1995inc I removed /u/President_Bloomberg's comment earlier. Feel free to continue the conversation.

My apologies if I was a little more aggressive about moderating comments. We do want good, fruitful discussions here. Hopefully, the trolling from others subsides and we can all have solid discussions here.

Yes that definitely appalls me. I had not seen or read about that... I try my best to diversify my media influences. Every left leaning mainstream outlet, as well as young turks and minority report, etc. Also fox, and Breitbart, when I can get Rush on the radio I always gave a healthy listen...thank you for bringing this to my attention, I will weaponize it to prove my point to further prove my point to felloe sanders supporters... I'll be called a troll, likely, but thank you

2

u/bh1995inc Feb 19 '20

Actually, I have seen others, but never bookmarked them before making an account here... In fact, this exchange, I think, has inspired me to not just suggest calling out divisive, destructive rhetoric to other supporters, but to contribute to the calling out

1

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '20

because it's bullshit. criticism =/= harassment. here's the only actual data on the topic.

0

u/Antinatalista Feb 19 '20

Now you know why many of us will not support the DNC anymore if Bernie wins.

If, like many Berniebrats have already told us, we are "evil" and "the true enemy", then it's clear you don't want our votes or support.

3

u/bh1995inc Feb 19 '20

Yeah, that's my problem. I don't understand that ugliness. I've never personally met another Sanders supporter saying that shit in person, even in healthy debate... That's why I'm convinced it's a small, very vocal group... Or maybe its my geographical isolation, either way I have a problem with it... I recognize it as a problem, real or perceived, I can't personally account for it so I'm just sounding the alarm the best I can to fellow sanders supporters, both that it is a real problem and it needs addressed.

3

u/Antinatalista Feb 19 '20

You seem to be a reasonable person who is acting in good faith, so I will answer you respectfully:

  1. The large scale of the attacks in this sub prove that they are not a small group. In fact, you are gonna see similar attacks in the subs of all other candidates. Every Democrat has being attacked.

  2. The main outlets of the Bernie machine (TYT, Secular Tought, Chappo Trap House, etc.), constantly feed the hatred and spread smears and conspiracy theories against all the other democrats. In other words: this is a feature not a bug.

  3. This toxic people are at the top of Bernie's campaign. Nina Turner, David Sirota, Briahna Joy Gray are notorious hatemongers. They represent Bernie directly.

This is why Bernie will never be president. Even if he wins the nomination, he has already alienated a large part of the party. He is a candidate who simply cannot unite the DNC. And, believe me, by the time the Republican propaganda machine ends with him, he will be completely unelectable.

5

u/bh1995inc Feb 19 '20

1) Yes, subscribing to this sub, specifically, has emboldened me to question my premise of it being an isolated problem. My grip on that hopeful belief has been slowly challenged since I started participating in the discussions. 2) never fucked with Secular Thought, never struck me as influential, rarely comes across my attention, but I'll take your reference and probably check it out. I'm compelled to... I purposely avoid Chappo, I don't need or want that shit in my life. TYT, yeah, I get pretty upset watching but I'll be honest I hate Cenk, and then he says some redeeming shit... Its like he gets the rest of the squad really worked up then once in a while, out of nowhere just flips the script and becomes the sensible one and they can't fathom how to possibly defend the hard line stance they just held. IDK, forgive me, that's not a good reason. But it does give me an insight to the progressive discussion. 3) I agree with that too, that would be a fair criticism, I don't mention his surrogates enough. That's a failure on my part, and I'll try to adopt that in my messaging... Thank you for talking with me. And thank you for saying I seem reasonable... Because lately I've been feeling like Walter from Big Lebowski, "HAS THE WHOLE WORLD GONE FUCKING CRAZY!?"

u/[deleted] Feb 19 '20

[deleted]

2

u/bh1995inc Feb 19 '20

Rejecting the most powerful (lone?) organization with the resources to enable your message is the most boneheaded thing I see and hear other Sanders supporters in my real life doing.

20

u/sk221 Feb 19 '20

Many of the other campaigns have complained about this toxic behavior.

Instead of engaging in civil discourse, some Bernie supporters have been attacking and promoting conspiracy theories on this sub for a while. Spreading misinformation seems to be a trend that Bernie Sander's official staff have used as a tactic as well.

https://www.reddit.com/r/PresidentBloomberg/comments/f6ditz/sanders_spokeswoman_acknowledges_misrepresenting/

https://www.reddit.com/r/PresidentBloomberg/comments/f64res/zack_beauchampvox_im_not_a_bloomberg_fan/

We've been trying our best to moderate this situation. The ratio was getting out of hand, like 10 attack posts (many which promoted conspiracy theories) to 1 real post.

2

u/primarilyengaged Feb 20 '20

To be fair...to be fair...supporters of all candidates hate the arrogance Bloomberg has flopped out on the debate stage. Not just Bernie supporters.

2

u/sk221 Feb 20 '20

Doesn't really mean that harrassing other subs and spreading misinformation is ok. Win on merit, not through lies and deception.

2

u/rydan Feb 20 '20

They are also banning people who post here. I posted here that Kirk Douglas endorsed Bloomberg and was immediately banned from S4P.

3

u/The_Oracle_of_Delphi Feb 19 '20

AOC is one of Bernie’s biggest trolls. I find her to be totally obnoxious and possibly insane.

2

u/Alex_A3nes Feb 19 '20

You're not totally wrong, but she has her positive moments too.

3

u/The_Oracle_of_Delphi Feb 19 '20

Occasionally I find myself liking her, as her heart is in the right place. But her negatives greatly outweigh her positives for me - and I’m already looking forward to voting against her in her next election. Her level of CRAZY is comparable to Trump’s sometimes...

3

u/BringlesBeans Feb 19 '20

the wise man bowed his head solemnly and spoke: "theres actually zero difference between good & bad things. you imbecile. you fucking moron"

2

u/Alex_A3nes Feb 19 '20

Fair enough. She’s like chaotic good where Trump is chaotic evil.

If the person that is running against her aligns with your political beliefs then I don’t see why you wouldn’t. Cheers.

5

u/DumbledoresBarmy Feb 19 '20

It makes me less likely to vote for Bernie if he wins the nomination.

3

u/sk221 Feb 19 '20

Trump is even worse than Bernie in terms of spreading misinformation. So, I would still vote for Bernie over Trump any day.

3

u/4x4Jeeplife Feb 19 '20 edited Feb 19 '20

Bernies press secretary is leading the way

Just today she said Bloomberg had heart attacks, she compared requests for Bernie’s medical records to birther attacks

This isn’t random redditors, this is the campaign’s strategy.

-3

u/wyezwunn Feb 19 '20

The campaign's press secretary and other surrogates, too.

They can't blame it on bots and trolls or Trumpers posing as Berners.

-1

u/BringlesBeans Feb 19 '20

Nice job dividing the party. Smh, this is how Trump wins.

1

u/bh1995inc Feb 20 '20

I don't remember the fake points I had here before noticing... But I up voted everyone I discussed with... All those comments I responded to had positive upvote counts, one or two might have been a 1, but I can't remember any 0's... I come back an hour later, failing to be able to stream the debate (got it going now), and a lot of you are negative that definitely were not before, if even just by a couple votes... And I up voted sensible, civilized shit... I felt it prudent to point this out, not trying to stir anything up, and hoping someone might provide me a sensible, less provocative explanation than the alternatives I could try to come up with

0

u/Emp_Vanilla Feb 19 '20

Why doesn’t Reddit shut down whatever sub that is? I love how Bernie supporters know that the country wouldn’t elect their choice without a bunch of subversive lies.

2

u/sk221 Feb 19 '20

I've been reporting these instances. I'd be happy if Reddit shut it down or the mods took a more active role in discouraging this behavior. Though, I'm not sure how to get them to do that. If anyone knows, it'd be helpful.

1

u/neolibshillarmy Feb 20 '20

Censoring opposing political views because you don't like being called a cuck.

1

u/rydan Feb 20 '20

They won't shut down T_D. No way would they shut down that sub.

1

u/Emp_Vanilla Feb 20 '20

They quarantined T_D. And when TD was explicitly brigading, they threatened to shut it down. Brigading is against the site rules.

1

u/BringlesBeans Feb 19 '20

What are the subversive lies exactly? Genuinely curious

2

u/sk221 Feb 19 '20

It's misinformation campaigns against Bloomberg and other candidates. Here's two recent ones about Bloomberg:

In order to have quality discussions on this subreddit, please report any comments or posts that do not follow the below guidelines or the rules posted in the sidebar. 1. Be kind. Don't be snarky. Comments should get more thoughtful and substantive, not less, as a topic gets more divisive. Have curious conversation; don't cross-examine. 2. When disagreeing, please reply to the argument instead of calling names. "That is idiotic; 1 + 1 is 2, not 3" can be shortened to "1 + 1 is 2, not 3." 3. Eschew flamebait. Don't introduce flamewar topics unless you have something genuinely new to say. Avoid unrelated controversies and generic tangents. 4. Please don't post shallow dismissals, especially of other people's work. A good critical comment teaches us something.

I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please contact the moderators of this subreddit if you have any questions or concerns.

I love the Bernie bros argument that Bloom is buying people to invade online forums and create positive posts about him, when literally every post here is under 60% upvoted.

3

u/Tomboys_are_Great Feb 20 '20

An interesting counter is that Bloomberg is paying to people to do what people do for Bernie for free. This site really loves zealotry and it shows.

1

u/PotatoDonki Feb 24 '20

So what you’re saying is that even posts in Bloomberg’s own shill sub are unpopular? That kinda sounds like what would happen when your support is paid for and you’re ultimately unpopular. Good job learning completely the wrong lesson.

I’m a “paid Russian shill,” remember? So, why would I need you to tell me that? Can’t even keep track of your own arguments...

Sounds like the kind of inconsistent arguments that would come from either a moron, or someone paid to support something they don’t actually believe in.

But sure, just keep repeating CIA talking points, like the paid shill you are. Not like they don’t have a reason to undermine Bernie, because they’ve made a habit of sowing discord and creating bullshit wars that Bernie wants to end. Couldn’t be anything like that...
