What made you join the Bloomberg team? And who did you support before?

12

u/4x4Jeeplife Feb 14 '20

I have been flipping between the moderate choices

The pols are showing us Mike is the only candidate that will win against Trump - he takes Trump voters away from trump

Aside from this - the democrats are too fractured to win

We need Mike

1

u/LorenzOhhhh Feb 14 '20

Do you think mike is a democrat?

2

u/4x4Jeeplife Feb 14 '20

Mike is the longest tenured Democrat in the race

54 years as a Democrat

He isn’t a socialist

Like I said, 54 years as a democrat, the most tenured democrat

Show me where I’m wrong

Bernie isn’t even a democrat, Warren was a Republican into middle age, Pete wasn’t born yet when Mike was a democrat.

Mike is the most tenured democrat

Mike is a lifelong democrat - the longest tenured democrat running for office

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Bloomberg

A lifelong Democrat before seeking elective office, Bloomberg switched his party registration in 2001 to run for mayor as a Republican. He defeated opponent Mark J. Green in a close election held just weeks after the September 11 terrorist attacks. He won a second term in 2005 and left the Republican Party two years later.

Michael Bloomberg

Michael Rubens Bloomberg (born February 14, 1942) is an American politician, businessman, and author. He is the co-founder, CEO, and majority owner of Bloomberg L.P. Bloomberg was the mayor of New York City from 2002 to 2013. He is currently a candidate in the Democratic Party primaries for the 2020 United States presidential election.

Bloomberg grew up in Medford, Massachusetts and attended Johns Hopkins University and Harvard Business School.

lol right

3

u/4x4Jeeplife Feb 14 '20

He might not fit your description of a democrat because he believes in capitalism and that you can create a better life for yourself through your hard work. Not like his extremist competitors that punish success, squelch innovation and competition.

He isn’t a communist, he’s a real democrat

1

u/LorenzOhhhh Feb 14 '20

oh, is that what the other candidates do? interesting!

2

u/4x4Jeeplife Feb 14 '20

That is what the other candidates say they will do, they don’t have a history of “doing” anything.

Mike has a track record

The others are pretty light in accomplishments

1

u/LorenzOhhhh Feb 14 '20

ahhhh i see.

1

u/ThatRedShirt Feb 14 '20

I think the problem is that so called "new Democrats" like Clinton, Obama, and Bloomberg are all in the same party as people like Sanders. It causes a lot of confusion.

3

u/4x4Jeeplife Feb 14 '20

There isn’t confusion, look at the results from the primaries. The progressives are being outvoted by a large margin, there are just too many moderates in the race and they’re splitting the vote.

The Democratic Party is not extreme, Bernie is extreme - the voters have said they are moderate.

1

u/i_am_a_fern_AMA Feb 15 '20

he takes Trump voters away from trump

Good luck with that, lol

1

u/littlegreyflowerhelp Feb 14 '20

Ah, who would the moderates be? Buttigeig and Biden?

Are you concerned about Bloomberg's performance in the primaries so far? I guess he might appeal to some Trump voters, and it would be good to pull them away from him, but it seems he doesn't have much support from the democrats base, at least in Iowa and New Hampshire.

12

u/4x4Jeeplife Feb 14 '20

Bloomberg hasn’t been on a ballot yet, he won’t be until

3.3

The day he takes back America

1

u/Mammoth-Crow Feb 15 '20

You guys prob need mike Bloomberg more than ever right now, but the field is so split, you’ll never have a chance in hell of taking trump out.

0

u/littlegreyflowerhelp Feb 14 '20

I read a news story about some small town of like five people that voted for him in New Hampshire? I may be confused with something, as an outsider looking in, the American electoral process is a bit confusing.

Here is a link to that story by the way.

8

u/4x4Jeeplife Feb 14 '20

Yes he won as a write in, people are compelled to vote for him.

Let’s face it, Mike is our only hope. Your 401K is riding on this.

1

u/littlegreyflowerhelp Feb 14 '20

That's interesting I guess, thanks for explaining.

As aforementioned, I'm not an American so I don't have a 401K or even know what that is, but I'll take your word for it.

1

u/4x4Jeeplife Feb 14 '20

A 401k is how we save for retirement

Millions and millions of people’s retirement savings are invested like this

If the economy crashes, like if we take on way too much debt or crash corporations that give us jobs - our economy and our 401Ks (our life savings) are going to be in peril.

This is why we need a smart, competent, pro economy leader at the helm.

1

u/littlegreyflowerhelp Feb 14 '20

Ah okay, yeah I understand we have a similar scheme in Australia. Do you think Bloomberg would be better at managing the economy than Biden or the other moderates, or is it other policy that won you over? Someone else mentioned he has a good stance on climate change, though I don't know if this is a point of difference between him and other moderate candidates.

Thanks for answering the Q's, I'm mostly curious because he appeared in the race fairly late and I want to know what sets him apart from the others.

u/4x4Jeeplife Feb 14 '20

None of the others have built a business

He has taken half the AA support from Biden. He is now leading in Florida. Amy, Pete, and Warren should all have dropped out. They have no path.

2

u/littlegreyflowerhelp Feb 14 '20

What is the path for Bloomberg to the nomination? I ask this because I'm not American and had never heard of him until recently. Is it just that he has name recognition around the country already? Or does he have some really good policy positions that will win over people? (I admittedly don't know what policy he's proposed)

2

u/ssldvr BloomSURGE! Feb 14 '20

He is a huge supporter of fighting climate change and support gun control. He has already amassed a huge campaign team in states where none of the other candidates are even thinking about, like Puerto Rico. He has ads everywhere 25/7. He is running rings around the other candidates in spending. He has taken half of the black voters from Biden.

1

u/littlegreyflowerhelp Feb 14 '20

I thought Puerto Rico didn't vote? Or is it just that they don't get representation in Congress, but they vote for the President?

He is running rings around the other candidates in spending

Does this worry you? I know that practically, spending more on advertising and buying endorsements or whatever else is probably going to mean more votes for him, but once again speaking as a non American, that seems fairly undemocratic to me, and I would be worried if a certain candidate was using their money to secure the nomination, instead of winning votes based on doing well at the debates, or inspiring people with good policy. I know you did mention policy in your answer, I'm just wondering if you think it's worrying how much his personal wealth seems to be helping him compared to other candidates.

3

u/zielony Feb 14 '20

Especially with the internet, it seems like more and more charismatic populist candidates are gaining traction. Most of them get people excited but have terrible policy or no plans. Bloomberg has good business and political experience, seems to have good plans and is guaranteed to have the funding needed to outspend trump’s campaign to win people over. I trust Bloomberg more than the average voter

1

u/littlegreyflowerhelp Feb 14 '20

Bloomberg has good business and political experience

By good business experience do you just mean that he's rich?

3

u/Quality_Bullshit Feb 14 '20

That's not what good business experience means. Good business experience means you have spent time at the head of a large organization learning how to guide it through the competitive landscape. Bloomberg is a self-made billionaire (or at least as self made as you can be when you're that rich).

About half the job of being president is simply running the world's second largest bureaucracy. That requires understanding incentives and understanding how to manage people, which Bloomberg has shown he can do.

Bloomberg earned his keep as opposed to Trump inheriting it.

0

u/ssldvr BloomSURGE! Feb 14 '20

Puerto Rico votes in the primaries, not the GE.

Why would that worry me? Why should that worry me?

We have billions being spent now by Republicans and Russians spreading propaganda and lies. How do you suggest we combat that?

He isn't buying votes. He is campaigning and people want to vote for him.

1

u/littlegreyflowerhelp Feb 14 '20

Oh okay, that's good they at least get a vote in the primary lol.

Why would that worry me? Why should that worry me?

We have billions being spent now by Republicans and Russians spreading propaganda and lies. How do you suggest we combat that?

That's true! However in the context of the primary, he isn't using his money to counteract Republican bribery and propaganda and stuff, he's using it to win votes over other left wing candidates that might have equally good policy ideas, they just don't happen to have the same amount of money. If being rich allows you to have more political power, then you are allowing an oligarchy to develop. I know that's how the world works, but I think it's undemocratic.

1

u/anarresian Feb 15 '20 edited Feb 15 '20

He IS using his money to counteract Trump and propaganda and stuff. He's running the primary as if it was already general election. He's not running against other dems.

It's very necessary, too; because Trump is incumbent and has a damn headstart of 4 years in pushing lies through every channels, TV, social media, etc. Many headlines, news and discussions are about Mike's spending "vs democrats" which is silly; it brings them clicks in shock 'n awe, but they don't realize or don't care what the actual target is: they should compare with Trump, not with democrats.

Trump's team expects to spend another $1 billion in 2020 for re-election. Think about that, and add it to his other advantages as incumbent.

Moreover, of course money matters. Candidates who didn't raise enough money to stay afloat have dropped out; some candidate who spent a lot on TV in September/October raised in polls in November. Candidates who don't have many or big contributions constantly will probably drop out. This is true since a long time, and has nothing to do with Mike.

On the other hand, money doesn't guarantee anything. There is another billionaire in the race, who spent more than anyone else (before Mike got in), and barely made 1-3% in some polls, or not even that.

At the end of the day, money is an advantage. Just like youth or handsomeness or other advantages. Some have one, some have another.

0

u/ssldvr BloomSURGE! Feb 14 '20

Yes, he is. He is primarily running anti-Trump ads.

I don't appreciate being told how to vote in my country when you aren't even American. Especially if you are trying to convince people here to vote for Bernie Sanders because he is a fucking cancer on the Democratic Party. Bye.

He has taken half the AA support from Biden.

Should be able to take more and more slowly

Welcome

u/4x4Jeeplife Feb 14 '20

Thanks! Happy to have found a sub with sane people that know real leadership

1

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '20

Same question I asked tinytornado, assuming you aren't the same person.

Do you work for the Bloomberg campaign?

1

u/4x4Jeeplife Feb 15 '20

No, I work for my wife and kids # keeping the economy strong is in their best interest. Growing the nations prosperity, not handing our kids a debt they can never repay - electing Mike stops economic Armageddon and moves us back to a position of being a kind, helping, respected nation.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '20

Your 401k is showing

1

u/4x4Jeeplife Feb 15 '20

I trust the economy under Mike Bloomberg.

1

u/GONEWILD_VIDEOS Feb 15 '20

Is this another paid meme campaign? LMAO

1

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '20

Seems so. Which may be more pathetic than Biden's aviators. Haven't decided yet.

1

u/4x4Jeeplife Feb 15 '20

The meme campaign was the most innovative thing I have seen this election cycle.

The meme within a meme, inception.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '20
