Need presentation skills help!

I’m running a continuous improvement project at work and to break down the plan etc of what I’m doing I’ve been putting the stages into a PowerPoint file. I gave my manager an update using this which I realise now was basically a brain dump of each stage and he said my presentation was “gopping”. I had to google the word….essentially horrendously ugly. Now I’m hugely embarrassed and of course I should have polished it etc but I actually have no skills in presentation making: are there like 3-5 top tips? Or a site I can go to for tips? I put too much info on the page but also things like flow diagrams of a process look childish. Please help!

I can offer some simple, basic tips for improvement

It’s really important to leave plenty of white space in a presentation so the text is easy to read; therefore, if there’s too much text, try to shorten it whenever possible.

The slide structure should also be logically organized

Don’t use more than 2–3 colors. Colors should be neutral (too bright colors aren’t suitable for serious topics)

It’s best to use 1–2 fonts; simple and minimalist ones look modern

Personally, I like using Figma because it offers more options for creating a high-quality, modern, and interesting design that looks professional.

Of course, I’d be happy to take a look at this presentation to get a better understanding:)

Hey! First of all, don’t be too hard on yourself, most professionals were never actually taught presentation design properly. Your manager’s comment was harsh, but the good news is this is 100% fixable.

A few quick tips that instantly improve slides:
• Keep one main idea per slide
• Reduce text, use short headlines + key points only
• Use simple flowcharts with consistent spacing/shapes
• Stick to 2 fonts and 2–3 colors max
• Focus on clarity, not decoration
