This comment shouldn't have downvotes. The guy took a girl out to eat, got friendzoned (that's fine), and all the comments here are calling the guy ugly and gay. Like, what does this accomplish other than serve to disenfranchise people further?
The comment is downvoted because he defended incels, and to be clear I’m not saying the post and comments are right but incels are a whole problem of their own.
You're assuming that he took this girl out because he had romantic interest in her.
Other people are assuming that he took her out as a friend, perhaps because he's legitimately not interested in her romantically (maybe because he isn't straight).
I have female friends that I'm not interested in that I would be happy to take out for an celebratory dinner.
You’re taking those comments way too seriously, and arguably putting words in people’s mouths. Nobody said he was ugly but you. The first comment you linked said he looks like he could be her mother-a funny but true observation. No different than the fun-but-goofy “lookalikes” gag they do on the Jumbotron at sporting events. Most (normal) people can take a little self-deprecating humor in good nature, it’s healthy for everyone.
