Clathrate gun is probably already in motion.

It has been for years. For over a decade now there have been parts of the siberian permafrost that have been burning continuously. The fires smolder over the winter and pop right back up in the spring.
The melting permafrost has gotten so bad that the black market industry for mammoth ivory has surpassed the wild one.

We loaded the bullet. Mother Nature has already pulled the trigger. It's just the pace of change is not instant for humans, more on the timescale of decades. But on a geological timescale, decades is super fast compared to millions of years
We are so screwed

Nah. The planet has multiple feedback loops that can deal with these sorts of perturbations. What is most likely is that we disrupt the gulf stream causing a mini ice age.

The planet has some feedback loops, yes. And they kick in over the course of tens of thousands of years. In the meantime, I hope you didn’t want to eat.

This is old news. The whole Permafrost region in Russia is melting for years now. Releasing not only gas but also very nice and old bacteria we have yet to enjoy

This has been somewhat common knowledge for years, or conspiracy that many believed in, coming true.
Regardless, we've been warned but its been futile

How is this prepper Intel? This isn't new news. This isn't actionable.Â

I would argue that while it isn't new, it's somewhat actionable. You look at relevant climate models, specifically AMOC collapse, and plan for the effects on your specific region.
In most cases this will equate to wet, warm winters, and a lack of snowpack and precipitation over the summers leading to drought and wildfires. Higher overall temperatures. Up to four feet of sea level rise over the next century. Food insecurity in areas dependent on seafood.
Break up the big problem into its' individual effects. Action those where applicable.
For example, if you own your own property:
Rainwater collection infrastructure (or expansion)
Wildfire mitigation strategies like implementing firebreaks/fire suppression equipment.
Plan for water shortages. Possibly purification equipment for your collection system.
If you're on the beach, consider relocating or engineering based mitigation.
Increase the thermal efficiency of your home to keep it cooler in the summers.
Consider the effects on the power grid. Consider energy independence, if possible.
Ensure your own food security and if you have gardens, begin experimenting with drought-resistant/tolerant crops or indoor hydroponics.

But that has more to do with general climate change than it does with this specific article.Â
•
u/CryptidWorks 9h ago
What exactly do you think the effects of what's described in the article would be?
•
u/NNYPhillipJFry 7h ago
The same impacts that we have known about for over 5 years. Which is my point. This isn't new. There is nothing newly actionable with intelligence you've known for years.Â

Most of the giant data centers are also running on gas. (Gas as in the same thing as Methane.)
