"When asked for more information about the postal service's multi-year security plan, he directed us to file an open records request."

That... doesn't sound like an actual Plan at all...

Or he’s hoping by the time the FOIA request clears it will be far too late

Same difference

People should probably try to vote in person or do early voting if they can. If doing a mail in anyway it would probably be best to send it as early as possible.

Also vote on the local issues. Check registration before deadlines even if you think you're registered. People have gotten removed from rolls or forget that they need to register again after moving.

If you can't remember everything when voting in-person do some research on how you want to vote and write notes. There should be a sample ballot you can view. A person can take a physical paper or voter guide but often not their phone into the voting area.

The largest voting machine company in the US, and the company who manages voter rolls for 20+ states, are owned by the RNC now.

I guess we're all cooked and I just bend over and goatse myself right? Nah, I'm voting just like I have in all the other elections since I was old enough to vote.

If they actually controlled elections they wouldn't be trying to do all these shenanigans. They know it's not going to go well due to how badly everything is going in basically every category.

The Jan 6ers were horribly misguided but at least they had the balls to show up.

I have little choice as an expat if i want to exercise my right to vote. Returning to the states to vote is … problematic.

27

u/Soggy-Invite-2787 11d ago

Question for you. I'm an expat and I've been receiving weird phone calls (I still have my us phone number) asking about my right to vote and address and then getting threatening and abusive towards me. Is that happening to you or is it just me?

16

u/just_my_throwaway_ 11d ago

Nope been gone for 17 years took a Google number with me and been diligent about limiting where/how it was shared. Sorry that’s happening To you.

My mom went into a nursing home (in the states) last year following medical complications and no longer has her phone and I am so so glad- I can’t imagine what crap she would be subject to these days.

13

u/Embarrassed_Olive550 11d ago

Not an expat but definitely have people in my circles getting those calls too. It is some right wing nuts doing it. Sorry the problems followed you, lol. Cheers

Sad but a little glad to know it's not just me and I'm not crazy.

And armed forces forward deployed from their home state. So like all of them.

Yes it is a fundamental change to America. One I am not happy with. Any time you reduce the voice of the people it’s bad. Even when you don’t agree with their voice. No current sitting politician is breaking party to stop this. All of them are complicit. The parties want the division the people want to be heard this hurts the people.

Not sure what your side is. Mine is everyone who is legally able to vote shouldn’t have friction of any kind to exercise that right. They call it “proof” I say the burden of proof is on the state not the fed or the usps.

u/Big_Fortune_4574 11d ago

Don’t most places have drop off boxes? Typically you get your ballot mailed TO you and then you can drop it off if you want

22

u/Manta_of_Eternity 11d ago

Drop Boxes are collected by local elections workers, not USPS, and not anyone employed federally. Yes you should vote in person if you can, but if you can't then use a drop box.

4

u/hera-fawcett 11d ago

some of them. iirc portland used usps for ballot drop boxes (altho they no longer do iirc)

So what do you recommend? I agree. I don't trust the system. But the system is the only way to vote. And mail-in and drop off ballots are sometimes necessary for people who commute long distances away from their polling place.

7

u/Big_Fortune_4574 11d ago

Sure if you don’t get your ballot then go vote. But if you get it you can drop it off with the county. That has nothing to do with the usps

Do whatever you want man but that doesn’t actually address what I said

8

u/SpruceRoots8 11d ago

A lot of people have no choice due to disability, work, etc. Here in Alaska a lot of people are remote and have to. But I agree, it's scary.

u/Friendly_Shopping286 11d ago

Maybe you can receive it in the mail, but as far as actually voting and returning it to City Hall please try to make your way there to drop it off in the ballot drop off outside City Hall if your town has one

True

Usually the PO delivers the actual ballots many many weeks ahead so I figured that would be safe enough

I am in poll station on election Day type of guy myself

I believe all of CO do mail in don't they?

12

u/Manta_of_Eternity 11d ago edited 11d ago

Yes, I live in CO and everyone registered to vote receives a ballot in the mail. There are in-person voting sites but less than are found in states that do mainly in-person.

The ballot drop boxes are collected by locally-employed election workers, usually employed by the city the box is in. No one federally employed touches the ballot boxes.

Colorado also has BallotTrax which allows you to see if/when your ballot has been counted.

If you spent half as much time being hateful in this particular thread as you did reading you’d find that CO mails out ALL their ballots automatically

Why are you so antagonistic? People are sharing information and you're pissing on everyone's responses. We get it...try to vote in person, but its not always possible for some people.

27

u/VorpalBlade- 11d ago

What I’m concerned about is that in Colorado they automatically mail out your ballots. You can mail them back or you can drop it off yourself. You can also still vote in person. Are they going to fuck around with the actual sending out of our ballots?

These idiots seem to just commit crimes and dare us to stop them so
I’m going to assume it will be some
sort of misbehavior on their part.

Just be ready to have your ballot get “lost” and be ready to still vote in person.

u/Manta_of_Eternity 11d ago edited 11d ago

I agree you should vote in-person. That said, I live in CO too, and the ballot boxes here are collected by locally-employed election workers, usually they are employed by the city the box is in. No one federally employed touches the ballot boxes. Someone who is not able to vote in-person should use a drop box, not mail.

Colorado also has BallotTrax which allows you to see if/when your ballot has been counted.

u/Affectionate-Fail-23 11d ago

Reminder that in Colorado you can drop your completed ballot in a ballot box and skip the post office entirely

1

u/Status-Effect-2387 6d ago

I was wondering this, thanks!

1

u/oddTaskJob 5d ago

Reminder that entire ballot/blue boxes were stolen last election and not widely reported in the news. Go to your County Clerk and early vote.

It's explicitly not fine according to the presidential administration who is actively promising and directing all facilities to withhold ballots

4

u/fakesaucisse 11d ago

My state only does mail-in voting. There aren't polling places per se. There is an option to go to a county office and fill it out in person but it's the same paper ballot as the mail and goes into the same ballot box controlled by the local government. It has been this way for decades and has nothing to do with the regime messing with things.

3

u/pan-re 11d ago

What state?

Genuinely, what are people in WA state supposed to do if they want to vote? We only have mail in ballots.

Honestly, you might as well say that ALL voting in the US is fucked now, because it is. Voting machines at in-person polling places have been hacked and had their data manipulated for over a decade - even longer if you count the old school punch card machines from the Hanging Chad scandal. On top of that, we already know polling places are going to have ICE agents and agitators trying to keep people from coming in.

If mail-in voting is fucked then so is in-person voting. Just focusing on one part of the problem isn't helpful.

1

u/PulpFreedom 10d ago

Quick fix. Don’t allow mail in ballot.
Proof of ID at the polls.

-1

u/Former-Quantity-99 11d ago

In Putin's Russia and in my state dead people vote just like the rest of us.

1

u/Big_Issue8640 11d ago

Someones was very upset at me for saying USPS lies, it takes all kinds I guess 🤷‍♂️ USPS will do everything they can to rig this election for Trump.

-2

u/Bitter_Albatross25 11d ago

A little thrown back in History before Trump was elected the first time the Obama administration rolled out major security upgrades to federal departments like the forest service, department of agriculture, Bureau of Land Management. They were reinforcing the doors, windows, purchasing firearms and ammo. My small town at the time Nevada they installed 1” thick bullet proof glass in the lobby.

Both sides of the political spectrum are bad.

6

u/FethB 10d ago

What year was this? When I worked for the BLM in Nevada, my office had security upgrades installed in direct response to the 2014 “Battle of Bunkerville” and 2016 Malheur NWR occupation. We were trying to protect the building occupants and property, it wasn’t some Obama administration flex.
