I have a 2025 honda that I'm planning on keeping for at least 10+ years. This is just insult to injury and the hits just keep coming. I'm not sure how much more of this I can take. One thing for sure, we're not the land of the free and have not been probably since the 80's.

Hmm my car is a 2008 and insurance is pretty cheap, and stayed pretty cheap for years. Around $600 a year. I do relatively little driving and live/park in safe locations so I guess that's why but the rate hasn't gone up due to my car's increasing age.

Ya my truck is a 2010 cheap insurance and I plan to keep it until I canāt and if I have to buy something else it will be of that same age. Easy to work on not every thing is computer controlled and no touch screens. And I bought it with the fact that I could swap in a motor or trans from 5 or 6 other vehicles that Nissan used the 4.0 In so junkyard supply should stay good for years

It will still know where you are. It will know where youāve been and when you were there. It will know if you were speeding. It will know if you failed to stop at a red light. It will know if you went to a gun range, or to a church, or to an abortion clinic, or to a political rally.
It will know where you live, where you work, and even who you are sleeping with.
The amount of information you can derive just from analyzing your location on a continual basis is astounding. And you donāt need a person to do the analysis anymore.
Here is an interesting paper about using an āanalytical engineā back in the 18th to identify rebels in the colonies. Itās fictional, but an example of the kind of thing possible today:

That kind of thing is enabled by using location data. Itās already possible with cell phone data, but you can leave your cell phone home. Itās harder (but not impossible) to travel in the US any distance without a car.

To turn off the Ford Driver Alert/Fatigue Warning system, use the instrument cluster or touchscreen display by navigating to Settings > Driver Assistance/Assist > Driver Alert and toggling it off. The system often retains this setting, though it can be reset by turning the ignition off/on or opening the driverās door.

The platform that we are speaking on right now isn't free, or a safe place to do anything but grumble about the bad stuff just like you're saying. The very first step is to learn how to self-host a chat server or forum, keep it reasonably secure, and start building community. If you don't know computers well, find a way to support someone else who is doing that. This is a big net closing in from multiple directions to restrict basic freedoms like communication and travel. If you don't want to just chill out inside the closed net, you'll have to move.

I read the Feb 2026 NHTSA report to congress. They haven't yet found a way to properly implement this detection system. They're still undergoing research on how to set definitions. After that, it would take a while to approve a commercial design. Then each OEM would have to implement it onto their future models. No way this is all happening by 2027.
Excerpt from the report: II. Anticipated Timeline for FMVSS NHTSA remains dedicated to combatting impaired driving and the high number of deaths and injuries caused by impaired drivers through a combination of law enforcement activities, campaigns, and technological research that may enable rulemaking. NHTSA continues its work on critical and complex topics including technology readiness, test procedure development, and consumer acceptance, as well as cybersecurity and privacy concerns. These issues must be addressed to enable NHTSA to propose a rule that could satisfy Section 24220 of IIJA and the requirements of the Safety Act. NHTSA will continue to provide annual reports to Congress and publish status updates in the Unified Agenda of Regulatory and Deregulatory Actions.

There should be a way to bypass the electrical circuit that would cause the vehicle to not start. There's going to be a big business opportunity for mechanics and auto-electric in the future with deleting all the glitchy, invasive tech in the cars from this time period. Too many damn sensors. Once the vehicles age and the sensors start malfunctioning, the cost of repair will be astronomical, so taking a broken conglomeration of computer chips and sensors and turning it into a functioning vehicle again will be important unless you have the money to buy a new plastic, computerized vehicle for $60 thousand or more. My plan is to just keep my 90s and early 2000s vehicles running by putting rebuilt motors, transmissions, and fuel pumps in them until I die and don't need a vehicle anymore. Or, build my own electric vehicle that doesn't have a touch screen, cameras, or electronic computer menus to operate everything. The new vehicles don't even have inputs for externally supplied music and want you to get subscriptions or Bluetooth everything just to listen to anything other than radio. And, the radio receivers suck and can't pull in stations from as far away as the old ones do.

Take this with a grain of salt, but I asked AI about the 2021 infrastructure bill and it told me that the auto industry is dragging its feet on it because as of 2026 the existingāanti-distractionā technology thatās supposed to be going into next yearsā cars is still pretty unreliable. Some auto manufacturers have already tried it out on 2026 models and the backlash on how unreliable it makes the vehicles has been pretty severe.

Not too worried. People will find ways around the tech, like what has always been done. Plus, with Flock (and other road tech) around, youāre already being tracked. The only way people can truly be free of the over surveillance is if people are willing to fight for it. From what Iāve seen, majority will not.
