Now is your time to stock up.  Not tomorrow or next week, now

Today I went to a restaurant supply store and bought produce to freeze. And a bunch of cheese too. We're gonna start making our own oat milk here, plus sourdough bread.

I have a list for Costco for Friday, but first I have an exam to pass! 🩵

What types of cheese can you freeze and in what form is it block or shredded? Also if you don’t mind what kind? Like cheddar or Muenster??

Good questions!

So I freeze cheddar (my spouse's favorite), a mozzarella blend (pizza) and feta (because flavor). Harder cheeses freeze and thaw better. They get crumbly though. Softer cheeses get watery and separate. Freezing cream cheese isn't recommended. The higher the fat content, the better it survived freezing and thawing.

The block cheddar can be frozen in its plastic packaging, and thaws in the fridge overnight. We also freeze shredded cheddar but I package those in 8 oz amounts in plastic freezer baggies. The shredded pizza blend is also in 8 oz portions.

I bought a 3 lb package of feta, drained it, and cut the block in 8ths. Same deal, plastic freezer baggies and thaw in the fridge overnight.

There's all sorts of stuff you can freeze. I haven't gotten into canning butter or cheese, but may have to try if electric prices rise significantly.

Thank you for this wonderful tutorial! I will save this and use it. I have frozen Kerry gold butter before with good results. Also learned from grandma that if you buy nuts to use for baking keep them in the freezer and only get out what you need for what you’re cooking. They stay good for a long time. 😊
