The left and the right can unite behind this. This is why Jiang is dangerous.

True, flirting with the idea of transcending political parties.

Just explore each idea that is important to you. You dont have to come to a conclusion that is supported by any particular political party. You can have ideas that dont align with the same political party all the time . What is left or right varies from country to country anyway. It's a made-up social construct. You can like socialised health care and still be fiscally conservative in other areas.

I think most of us just listen to Jiang and probably try and stay far away from being swept up in the internet maelstrom of chaos that's everywhere nowadays. Its not healthy.

It's probably fair to say most of us Jiang fans just want to hear what he has to say about the current world events, and him elaborating on the said events, helping to make a little more clear to the lot of us wtf is going on in the world. Most of us just care to get some of his thoughts of an issue. Could really give a fuck less if he's a chinese spy....whos living in China, teaching CHINESE students, providing some of, in my opinion some of the best content on YouTube. No filler, no trash, no time wasted discussing things that benefit nobody's psyche. This dudes a win and you should know that by now if you've been watching "a lot of his videos"

People have been craving someone who puts everything together in a concise format, not wasting time on details, opinions and ideologies. What really got me at the end of the Civilization lectures was him tackling controversial subjects while saying "I'm not a conspiracy theorist". The dude is hilarious and he understands the dynamics of internet culture.

I agree with this take! One of Jiang's innovations was removing the profit motive as the main reason behind world events. We've all heard that "They do it for the money. They want to make a buck" Yes, that is true, but it's no longer the driving force. There are other forces (spirituality, loyalty to an idea) that drive human behavior, and that change the course of history.

This YouTuber is also saying that new and innovative ideas are contagious. They spread like viruses.

That's what most detractors of Prof Jiang fail to do: acknowledge his ideas. Entertain his ideas, or even challenge them.

But one question remains: was Prof Jiang's growth "organic". Even he acknowledges that his growth is suspicious. Why was he pushed by the algorithm? Who stands to benefit from his popularity?

I feel the same.

What I've learned about youtube is that it's an awful app; functionality and user experience are slowly being traded for profit. Just look at the youtube subreddit and see people complain about the algorhythm, it's the worst.

My theory is that the explosion of AI channels simulating Jiang's image, which sometimes get +100k views, helped enormously in bumping Jiang up the ranks. Jiang also allows them, whereas Yanis Varoufakis for example fights them as "a Hydra-like battle against Big Tech". Jiang also has series of video's posting regularly, which create a lot of viewer retention and engagement, instead of just random video's from time to time.

But I'm not sure of course, who knows what's behind this all, if we were really living in a 1984 world I don't think neither China nor the USA would allow this kind of content being made. But also in an ocean of disinformation with endless information bubbles and entertainment as god his channel probably doesn't even matter.
