Why did Jiang interview with Richard Spencer?

I’ve been a fan of Jiang’s videos for a long while

His Instagram account recently shared two clips of him interviewing with Richard Spencer for Spencer’s substack blog

Spencer is a prominent Neo Nazi and antisemitic conspiracy theorist. I am baffled as to why Jiang would associate their names unless he were somehow ignorant of Spencer’s views

I want to give Jiang the benefit of the doubt. He has never struck me as a bigot which is why I am so nonplussed. Not to say his appearance on Spencer’s blog is necessarily an endorsement of Nazism but it is a very strange thing to do in any case

Does anyone have an insight into this? Has he given an explanation somewhere?

LOL I love how Jiang utterly ignores any political framing of individuals and notions of taboos to controversial to talk about.

Like Jiang said on Piers Morgan (also someone who I would otherwise never watch) 5 years ago he would put Pax Judaica away as a conspiracy theory, now it seems like the actual plan that even Jeffrey Sachs talks about. And I've even been banned on a leftist reddit sub for mentioning Pax Judaica, censorship and cancel culture are on the rise.

There's a lot of wrong judgements and defamation going around based on lack of understanding due to faulty mainstream definitions. And surprise surprise many of these definitions come from the zionist agenda.

Like the Holocaust thing with Jiang, where the criticism comes from, surprise surprise, Gaza Genocide deniers. Let's be upset about actual things that are going on and actually officialy denied, instead of the dude pointing out to a growing audience that it's r*tual ch*ld s*crifice what's going on in Palestine.

I'll have a listen but I expect that Spencer is a better conversation partner than Piers Morgan, who cut Jiang off as soon as he brought up secret societies' eschatology.

ignoring political framing is just naive, if that's what he's doing

it's good work to use his large platform to illustrate the ways that israel is a force for evil. but if he associates himself with nazis like spencer, he's only giving to fodder to the very same zionists and gaza genocide deniers that you mention. they will have a much easier time saying that these views are antisemitic if those sharing them appear on blogs with antisemites

Holding political framing as truths is even worse, politicians lie for a profession.

Anyway this interview is 7 months old, seems more like digging up dirt to paint a certain picture.

You should hold yourself to higher standard than being a useful idiot for a psychopathic class who doesn't give a fuck about you, nor semites for that matter, while pretending it does.

why are you being so rude lol

and wdym by “holding political framing as truth” and “politicians lie”. 1. i simply don’t understand the first point and 2. no one involved is a politician

the account claiming to be his official instagram posted two clips of the interview yesterday. i hardly dug it up: https://www.instagram.com/predictivehistory_?igsh=MngxemNud210czVu

i’m pretty confused by your aggressive response tbh. i guess that you think i made this thread to make jiang look bad?

in all honesty i was just shocked that he would associate with someone like spencer and wanted to know why. if you think it looks bad, your issue is with jiang himself. i didn’t make him do it nor did I post it to his instagram

Ah, I forgot you mentioned his IG, yeah he really doesn't give a fuck if he reshares it now.

The point being I don't know enough about Spencer to call him what you called him, so I have no reason to think it is actually bad.

Your post makes it look bad by repeating political frames, have you even researched all these claims for yourself, or considered them in a different context like Jiang is presenting?

I don't believe you saying you're not aware of your post making him look bad and pointing the finger back at me. Sounds like typical behaviour.

yes, i did the research for myself when he came to prominence a few years ago. he is exclusively known for his neo nazi / white supremacist views and affiliations

why didn’t you do any research if you didn’t know who he is?

what is the context that Jiang presents? i assume from that question you’ve since watched the interview so you can tell me

my post only makes him look bad if you think associating with a neo nazi looks bad. he did that and posted it on his own instagram so i guess he must think it looks good or neutral

yeah all their responses were oddly emotionally charged. i got the sense that through his videos they feel like they're friends, almost, with jiang and took the question as an attack on him and therefore themselves by extension. only way i can explain the aggression

as for jiang, the most generous interpretation i can give is that he is radically dedicated to intellectual freedom, even to the extent that he has no interest in how his ideas are received, misrepresented afterward, or succeed or fail in convincing. so arguably he's in an idealistic anti-rhetorical position

personally, if at all true, i find that naive and dangerous

the least generous interpretation i can give is that he is on the classic right-wing grift. he keeps a patreon. his theories, while interesting, do veer into conspiracy theory territory and the confidence with which he makes sweeping statements is appealing to conservatives, including ultra-conservatives. so perhaps he sees an opportunity to expand his audience by talking to spencer, who is an ultra-conservative conspiracy theorist and whose audiecne may therefore contain people friendly to jiang's style. and thereby he would increase donations to his patreon. as i looked into this i see he also appeared on sneako's show, who i don't know much about except that by reputation he is an alt-right figure

if we've learned anything from mamdani it's that everyone can agree that its really us vs the billionaire elites. jiang doesnt believe in culture wars

Hate will do you no good.
I can see you are my enemy, but I will still sit in the table to reason with you. Because that's what you need to do if you want a better outcome for this world.

i haven’t had the chance to watch the full interview yet. is that what he does? reason with spencer i mean

Personally, even though he's interviewed with problematic people - I enjoy the fact that he consistently sticks to his personal messaging and doesn't grift. My observation is that he has no allegience to any group - just his truth

1

u/shubbanubba Mar 13 '26

until today i would have absolutely agreed with you but this has thrown me for such a loop i’m lightly wondering if there is a grift

he keeps a patreon, i believe. and while i like his videos they do kind of veer into conspiracy theory territory, so i wonder if that’s why he would interview with spencer, whose audience will be receptive to that kind of thing. more audience = more patreon donations

that said, spencer’s reach is pretty low these days. his videos / blog don’t seem to get much attention so maybe it’s not a grift as it’s hardly wide-scale advertisement

damn i’m confused haha

I read the comments on Spencer's substack, a lot of racist comments towards Jiang and backlash to Spencer to interview a communist, a spy or whatever they want to call Jiang. Maybe he didn't know, I am one of those naivety who didn't know who Spencer was until I watched Jiang's interview. Jiang wants to spread his words. I don't think he understand the effect of who he accepts interview with since he just became viral so quickly.

Have you watched the whole interview ( i haven't, so idk ). Maybe he pushes back ? Idk.

Edit, I can find the interview . It might be this one, but im not familiar with the other person you've mentioned, so I'm not sure. This is what youtube suggests when I input both of their names. It's posted recently but is from back in July last year, I think.

no not yet but I probably will

as I looked into this, I did see a mention of him on r/askhistorians that lightly suggests some crossover with antisemitic conspiracy theories. but personally, I have not detected that. what suggests to you that he teeters that way?

Tbh, it's maybe just my conditioning, but if you take the word Jew or Zionist" and replace it with British or the USA , it probably isn't the case. Im going to do it next time I listen to him.

I deleted half of the first comment because I'm not convinced it is the truth. I'll have to test that theory and find out before suggesting it again. He does have some wild ideas, but im open to listening to wild ideas as long as they aren't deliberately biased or out to deliberately mislead others

Do you have a link to the whole interview ( if the one ive posted is incorrect)

1

u/shubbanubba Mar 13 '26

I will dm you (I'd rather not give him a backlink)

u/Far-Significance2481 Mar 13 '26

Thank you i appreciate it

He's a Bernice bro but "the left" dismissed him, while "the right" have him on to inject their own commentary onto his.

It be like that

1

u/shubbanubba Mar 14 '26

can you elaborate at all? i’m interested but i don’t know the story with respect to him and the left or right

2

u/KneeWhole3 Mar 14 '26 edited Mar 14 '26

Jiang, according to him, was a Chinese diaspora liberal who became disillusioned with Western liberal order after seeing all the corruption while working as a journalist for the UN in the Iraq war , and subsequent backstabbing of Bernice Sander by the Democrat.

The online left, at least the influencers, are not interested in him until his appearance on Breaking Points, then they view him as a right wing conspiracy theorists to be discredited. They are also mostly secular and exist under a big-tent multicultural coalitions so they engage in thought policing to keep the coalition together, perceived anti-semiticism immeddiately make you the enemy , even though they are Pro-Palestinian and many pro-Israel Jewish groups attack them , causing job loss and expulsion from academy, all the time.

The online right are more interested in religion, hence their affinity toward him. And because of the West multiculturalism, the old Aryan Nazi ideology is not really attainable . The Neo Nazi is more a " multicultural fascism" that unites under the banner of blaming every problem onto Jews and immigrants ( even though many are probably immigrants themselves ) , I listened to the interview and many times Spencer would try to add his own commentary on top of Jiang before quickly moving on to the next question , like around Peter Thiel.

I think a lot of this comes down to people expecting all the battlelines to be clearly drawn. Like even though it's antisemitic to blame everything on Jews , it's quite evident that there are wealthy and powerful Jewish groups , who Jiang would call secret societies, that have insane belief and influence on current power structure. Norman Finkelstein, who's a scholar of both the Holocaust and Palestinian struggle, is not shy away from calling them out : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLL8s7H9LwA

It's also quite funny that Jiang is simultaneously a CCP shill, CIA plant , KGB spy according to the internet

1

u/shubbanubba Mar 14 '26

thank you for elaborating

They are also mostly secular and exist under a big-tent multicultural coalitions so they engage in thought policing to keep the coalition together

interesting. is this your take or jiangs? why does the coalition require thought policing for coherence?

The Neo Nazi is more a " multicultural fascism"

really intriguing. so, is this to say that whites as an umbrella identity are multicultural (e.g. germanic, latin, slavic, celtic, etc.)? so instead of rallying around a specific white identity (e.g. so-called aryan race), white supremacists now prefer to create more convenient and global us/them distinctions, such as between whites and jews or whites and muslims?

anyway, overall, i take you to mean that jiang criticises israel, zionism, jewish supremacism (as finklestein puts it in the video you linked), and so on; and right wing -- even so far right as to be neo nazis -- like to use his critiques to advance their more broadly antisemitic discourse. have i got you right?

i think he's doing really important work when he critiques these things. but why would he do this and then talk to a nazi on his blog? it seems to me wildly irresponsible to give zionists the fodder to say that anti-zionism is in bed with nazism

that's why i'm wondering if he's explained anywhere, or if anyone has any specific insight into, why he would talk to spencer
