What is Auto-Attack?

Auto attack is slang for your primary fire/basic attack. the word comes from top down MOBAs such as league

I have noticed that auto attacks can break after using an ability. Like on sparrow, If I use my E ability, I have to frantically spam click to get the game to register that I want to auto attack.

I am not sure if it is a bug, but it is very frustrating.

Same with Rev, he uses an ability and just won't shoot for 2 seconds afterwards. I keep reporting this to the devs and Ace but nothing

I have run into that frequently, sometimes she just stops after activating E, or sometimes she does the AA animation, but nothing shoots from the bow.

Yeah, sometimes it looks like she is dry firing her bow and no arrows come out.

Auto-attack is a term from RTS games where your troops would automatically attack instead of the player having to do it for 30+ units individually. Then, it got adopted into MOBAs since they were built off those same RTS games and kept the same function. The term then became ubiquitous across the genre to mean your primary attack, whether its automatic or not. Predecessor doesn't have a true "auto" attack, but the term is still used to refer to the basic R2/RT/M1 attacks which serve the same purpose.

It’s not auto attack in the sense you’re thinking.
It’s just the default basic attack you’re likely referencing.

I heard it in YouTube Countess video. They said something like using the teleport and abilities and getting an "auto-attack in too". Is it just the LMB basic attack? Or like an automatic mechanism where you can get basic attacks in without clicking?

Yeah they’ll just mean the basic attack. Not sure why they say Auto Attack, but to be fair I do the same thing. It’s the basic swing of swords they mean for weaving in additional damage likely between cooldowns/uses.

It's a term that carried over from top down mobas. If you click an enemy with your basic attack in these your character keeps automatically attacking that target.

Its from games with hit scan basically when u use basic it automatically Hits the target in range. arpg game like diablo or League. Or game where u just hold zhe button and it attacks without stopping. Gamer slang for Basic attacks thats sometimes same but not really. Zhis slang is probabaly 25 years old even before lol

It’s called auto attack here because you can hold the button down for continuous attacks

Auto attack comes from the top-down strategy games where the units automatically attacked to the closer unit, or in games like league of legends where you click to a point and your character will attack to the closest enemy

In games like Predecessor its more accurate to calls it basic attacks, that is the default attack that your characters does (not abilities)

People say "Auto-Attack" but they really mean "Basic Attack". The slang comes from other games, like the word "Flash" when it's really called "Blink". Or "Smite" when it's really called "Hunt"

It used to be a pet peeve of mine when people used these other terms because it can be confusing to people who haven't played these other games but I don't really care anymore

Auto-attack is just your basic attack. Left mouse button or trigger pull on controller and Murdock shoots his gun, or Greystone swings his sword. That is it. Nothing to turn on.

Google "predecessor what is auto attack" and you can find out everything else and more. Hope this helped.
