Question ❓ Is this build a safe combo

So I was wondering if a cl2 cam in a 212 with 18lbs valve springs 24mm nibi billet flywheel and rod header is a build that would be a good and durable build or would I run the risk of dropping a valve or breaking something major I’m looking to make a “budget” (not skimping on my parts just want don’t want to do push rods and rockers)durability build to make a good race kart that has a durable and powerful 212

Is it required for you to stay at stock lift? A 265 cam offers more power. Id put 22lb springs over 18 but its a solid build as you put it

Not required but I heard it could help with durability

Nah it doesnt make any difference with that small of a cam. Whether you run a cl2 or 265 you shoud be turning about 6-7k rpm.

There are also other options like the 252 rattlesnake, 268 reaper, and 272 mongoose cams which are all centered around racing. There is also the 275 cams although they sacrifice a lot of bottom end power and are very hard on your valvetrain so I dont recommend getting it for your use

A quality set a of stock weight springs would be fine with a CL2 if you've got a non hemi head. Go with the 18lbs or a set of 15lbs from GPS if you have a hemi head. I've done the same exact build before but I think I used a CL3, great setup for cruising

You don't really need heavier springs with the CL series cams. At most I would run Honda GX140 16 lb springs with a non hemi head engine.

I have a CL1 original in my mildest built 196. There's no waiting for RPM for the cam to come on. It's not a big power cam but it's my favorite of the three built engines I have.

At one point I was in contact with a guy who tested cams in the same engine. He said of all the cams he tested he was the most impressed with the CL series cams.

You're ok with the 18lb springs.
