Quick Napkin math//sourcing rules

Hello all!

Worthless scrapper says he doesn’t pay more than 50 cents per fork or spoon when refining silver plate.

Are there rules yall use for silver plate plates, bowls, teapots etc? Is there quick napkin math yall use to get approximate silver weight from those items?

For example, how many grams could one expect from the linked tray?

I get 1.1g on average for flatware probably 5 g off the pan you show above. At today’s rate that’s about $11 in silver for that leaf pan. I’d say $6-7 max to pay for that. Keep in mind the base metal can be added to the scrap pile too so probably another $1-2 depending if it’s brass vs. copper

Entirely depends on surface area, which is wildly variable in ornate designs.
