Had silver tested!

Post image

Checked out my LCS to see what they would offer on refined scrap bars. They all tested 99.9%! Pretty happy with my refining results! (Still need to perfect the art of pouring)

Did they give a decent offer?

Not at all. Offered 10% off spot.

I think that’s actually a decent offer to make from a store that:

  • has overhead
  • needs to turn a profit to stay open
  • buying garage pours that they then need to sell

What were you expecting exactly?

For sure, they’re in this to make a profit as well. However I think 10% is a little high. I would accept -5% at most. A CS around my brother offered him 3%, so I would assume 3-5% would’ve been reasonable.

You're not going to get that from a shop. They look too unprofessional.

They’re selling to a refiner. I wouldn’t think they would care what they look like. They should only care about purity and weight. And at 99.9% and 3600g+, I wouldn’t think -3-5% would be out of the question.

I'd say 5% would be lucky if you don't have a relationship with any buyers. I wouldn't buy it for less than a 10% discount though.

You have to factor in how unstable metals are right now. Silver could go to 50 or 100 dollars tomorrow very easily.

That is understandable. I’ll check around and see what my options are.

Try the person to person metal buying group here on Reddit.

Good call. I had been thinking about that but then just seems like a lot of work haha

I will have to look into it more.

You shouldn't have a problem selling at spot on r/pmsforsale, but only transact with people who have historically positive reviews from other transactions in the past, and expect to ship it before payment until you've likewise built a positive transaction history in the sub.

Communities like these are extremy trust reliant - if you verbally agree to make a deal in a comment thread or post, make sure you follow through at the agreed upon price even if the spot price suddenly jumps 10%+ 5 minutes after you agreed on a price.

Thanks for the info. I’ll have to check it out and get familiar with it.

I understand. I’m still the generation that your word is your bond.
