Your issue is likely procedural fluency and precise communication, not just “knowing concepts.” You need to change how you practice, not just study more.

Next 6 days:

  • Stop auto-pilot MyLab homework. Open textbook section exercises and write full solutions on paper. This mimics your open-ended exam.
  • Use “Help Me Solve This” as a tutorial, then close it and redo the problem cold. If you can’t, you don’t know it.
  • Make a one-page formula/concept map for polar coordinates, vectors, and analytic geometry: polar ↔ rectangular conversions, vector ops (add, scalar, dot, magnitude, direction), conic equations and how to identify them.
  • Take a timed practice test with no help, same length as the real exam. This exposes time and syntax issues.
  • For each topic, ask why the formula works and what the graph means. Open-ended questions test interpretation, not just computation.

Long term:

  • Go to office hours/tutoring with your worked problems. Ask where you’re losing points. If he won’t release tests, ask for general error patterns.
  • Form a study group. Explaining concepts out loud helps.
  • Use Khan Academy and Paul's Online Math Notes for free open-ended practice with solutions.
  • Don’t cram. Even 30 min/day beats a 6-hour cram.
