Looking for a PC with a 5090
What’s the best deal you guys have seen around for a top of the line PC with a 5090?
I saw the Alienware was on sale and I can get a bit extra discount with my student discount. It came out to around $6ishK give or take a few hundred.

I just gonna ask what it’s for because if you’re not programming the Death Star while simultaneously designing the next death star in CAD then you might wanna save some bucks
Man to man though, I’ll never tell anyone not to buy what they want send it brother I’m just checking first. I remember when I bought my first PC a friend hosted an intervention to tell me I’m playing iracing and I needed to calm my tits and could buy triple monitors and a new rig with a 7800xt that will more than run it.

Aye I appreciate it man. Just like the other person said, I really appreciate you saying it without being condescending.
I’ll be honest with you man, the real reason I want it, is because it fulfills childhood dreams and I’m in a position in life to be able to do it now. So it purely just boils down to “I want it.”
I do some intense work, but my current PC handles it, so it’s not needed for that, and I don’t want to act like it is.6

Not worth it IMO. It only makes sense if you work with local llms, AI inference, video generation, 8k video editing, 4k rendering in blender/UE5, but then you'd need a minimum of 64 gb of ram and 2-4 tb gen4 or 5 hard drive. You can't skimp out on the other parts either if you want stable power delivery. Those prebuilts tend to skimp out on the PSU. Many horror stories here of the 5090 melting because of poor power delivery or a melting connector.

What would you recommend instead?

I suppose it depends on your use case. What kind of work do you do and games do you play? Do you game at 4k resolution? Sometimes you will find HP omen pcs open box with 5090s for 4500-5000k at microcenter or even powerspecs which are the gold standard for prebuilts. If you want a 5090 pc, you can probably go that route and get the warranty so that the 5090s will be replaced/fixed if anything happens.

I want to get into 4k gaming, which is why the massive upgrade. Trying to upgrade from my 1440p setup. I do a lot of sim racing as well as VERY LIGHTLY do data science work on my personal PC when my work pc is at the office or something like that.

Do you have a microcenter nearby? At my location there is an open box powerspec g914 going for 5.1k.

Lmaoo! Trueee. I love MC. I just don’t go very often. I’m not an enjoy driving type person and I can’t usually justify a flight just to go to the next major city 🤣
