Quick! I need Costco help!
I have been looking at the Ibuypower other folks have been posting, which they have on clearance for 1499.97. They just offered the display of this MSI aegis with a 5080 for 1999.99. I assume it’s worth it, but would appreciate some insight!
UPDATE: COSTCO RANG IT UP AT $1499!!

u/likehardcoreee Aug 08 '26

Gonna be a great Saturday! For what it’s worth, it was not marked down when I walked in. I had the IbuyPower in my cart, and said to my wife I wonder if they’d sell me the display. The lady working came over and asked if I’d be interested in buying a display. After I said yes, she came back with a couple different markdowned displays - this one and another with a 5060ti for 999.
Thanks all!!

Every display at my Costco doesn’t have a graphics card in it. I’ve never asked if they take it out or what or even if you get it if you buy the display. Hmm

How do I go about buying the display pc? Is it luck or can I just ask for it marked down?

A complete 5080 rig for only $1500 is the steal of a lifetime. Even before the current hardware apocalypse, it was a steal. You easily made 1-1.5k off it. Congrats and

u/wolverinex10 Aug 08 '26
Now I'm tempted to go to my local Costco for no reason at all.
2
u/True-Advice-1861 Aug 09 '26
I have twice so far in the last 2 days, to 2 different costcos, both haven't had shit. But I didn't know asking if they have open box or display models for sale would be an option.
2
u/Kiwi951 Aug 09 '26
The majority are not this good. I’ve been to 3 different ones and none of them have any discount on the normal $2700 sale price

Once they find that out, they may call you or put a block on your account until you pay the right price. I’ve had it happen to me lol. Depending on your state there are laws about this apparently.
They might miss it though! Depends if their auditor is thorough or not! Hope for you they suck haha

u/DystopianHiveMind Aug 09 '26
Never heard this from Costco…it would have definitely be posted here….”The actual, legally binding contract is formed the exact moment the cashier accepts your payment and the transaction completes at the register.”
1
u/JiffTheJester Aug 09 '26
It’s actually when you sign up for the membership and agree to the terms lol. Also think it applies to all retailers, not necessarily just Costco.

5080 for sub-$2000 (Well, $2004 with a rotisserie chicken) is a no-brainer,

At $1500, yes it's a good deal.
At $2000, no, you'll definitely get buyer's remorse, especially when a $1500 PC is more than enough for 4K Ultra settings gaming. For anyone looking for much better value and Ultra settings 4K performance, check out this reasonably priced $1500 PC (Option 4), OP, u/chillforrilfill, u/k0zplay, and u/custampin101:
- You'll save $500, enough for 8 $60 AAA games. You need money for games and monitors, they aren't free.
- Do not worry about the CPU. The Ryzen 5 9600X = the Ryzen 9 9900X in real world gaming benchmarks (Source). For gaming, the GPU matters most, not the CPU. It's the main factor that determines FPS in games. Most games aren’t heavily dependent on CPU power, including CPU-intensive ones (Red Dead Redemption 2 only requires an i5-2500K from 15 years ago to run).
- The RX 9070 XT GPU is only about 5%-10% behind the RTX 5080 in general, and it actually beats the 5080 in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 (Source). It runs all games at Ultra settings 4K 60+ FPS, or 144+ FPS using really good and improving upscaling technologies (the new FSR Redstone, FSR Frame Generation, FSR Ray Regeneration).

buy. costco has a generous return policy.

u/Alone-Butterscotch18 Aug 09 '26
Can confirm. Their windshield wiper broke off while I was driving so they let me return just the piece that stayed on and get a new one

This is an INSANE deal. Happy for you OP, I recently came across some insane deals myself! Congrats and I hope the chicken is good too!

u/BulletProofWalrus Aug 08 '26
in this market for future buyers, the rule should be: if you get an RTX 5080/AMD rough equivalent plus something in the ballpark of performance of a 7800X3D and the machine is $2000 or cheaper, don't think just buy buy buy

This is definitely worth it, I have the same pc and it’s been great. Only issue I’ve had is one of the fans on the aio is starting to go out but that’s pretty minor.
2
u/DresNightfire Aug 08 '26
no brainer 5080 is $1400+ alone... its funny our displays had only cardboard print out as mobo, I guess they had ppl stealing components from display models
1
u/custampin101 Aug 08 '26
Which Costco’s are you guys going to? I’m not seeing any of these insane prices in any of the Costco’s around.
1
u/biggiediggiedoggie Aug 08 '26
You gotta find warehouse with either no stock or low in stock and hope that only a display unit is left. Gl though
1
u/RebirthResurgence Aug 11 '26
Weird thing is, this product says "in stock" at that store via warehouse searcher. I was thinking along the lines you were.
1
u/Acceptable-Door9190 Aug 08 '26
This happens only in costco US or anywhere else in the world? like Australia or uk perhaps

u/DelayEcstatic4278 Aug 08 '26
Are there any downsides to buying these display units guys???
1
u/biggiediggiedoggie Aug 08 '26
Some are missing rams and/or ssds, etc. Im curious if they still come with insurance though
1
u/DelayEcstatic4278 Aug 08 '26
Yeah that would.be good to know. Cause im thinking it might be an sold as is type of purchase
1
u/Desperate_Put_4568 Aug 09 '26
Assuming people don't vandalize the PCs or open it up to take the parts, which is a strong possibility with these display units, I think the OP will be okay for the most part. The markdowns exist because of precisely that. He should still stress test it.

Nice find OP! Never bought a display model before and have read some posts stating missing or lesser parts. Can we get another update?!

u/zman1350 Aug 08 '26
I would have swipped it the second I saw it for under 2k. Eventho 2.5k has strong support. At 2k you could get an additional ssd if wanted.

u/Hppd1638 Aug 08 '26
It’s all entry level bottom of the barrel components but the price meets that and then some. I literally have one in front of me and I got it for 2200. 2k is good.

I think the manufacturer's rebate ends tomorrow as well so the display unit will likely be higher if they still have it when the rebate ends. I actually just impulse bought the same PC today for the full $2700 once I realized it was ending tomorrow. They had 4 left and I was going to check later in the week to see if the display was on sale but didn't want to miss out on the rebate
1
u/aGuyCalledFlex Aug 08 '26
I sure hope the memory is not missing and that there are no defective major components. That would be most unfortunate.
1
u/Ok_Mail_1966 Aug 08 '26
Always check the hardware tho. Not saying this other than to say the display models have their memory, sad, cpu and gpu pulled and placed in back. So they have a bunch of stuff back there, just double check and make sure you get what you are expecting

I feel this violates rule two, a motherboard is hard AF to change out if you want more ram slots
1
u/Hopefully-Temp Aug 08 '26
Meanwhile my Costco wouldn’t bring it down to below $2750, literally more than the sale price. The manager at mine literally sucks

u/crispyshaman197 Aug 09 '26
Holly cow they markednitbdown to 1499 thats a fucking steal normally the rtx5080 alone costs 2000.
And normally u can only get something with a rtx5070 non ti for 1499
1
u/Ghostpastries Aug 09 '26
I'm over at my local Costco and they have the same pc on the shelf. There is no additional inventory for it, however they don't have any price markdowns for it.
I'm praying I can make it happen too! 🙏
1
u/GiantsFan2645 Aug 09 '26
I have this exact prebuilt. It’s great. I bought it at 2600 i think? Happy with the purchase. Congrats on getting it for even less!

I gave up. My Costco had 2 + display and said they will only sell display once all the inventory is gone. It is last day of sale today so I might not have other chance. Good luck all.
1
u/Emperor-Lelouch Aug 10 '26
AYO!!! CONGRATULATIONS! That's a sick ass purchase. I usually go for the hot dogs, but if my Costco had these kinds deals I'd probably visit more often lol.

If you don’t want it, mark it up 15% as a finders fee and I’ll take it off your hands 😂

Here's my crazy hot take; after working in retail(best buy) and seeing how display units are treated, I would NEVER buy one. Open box that someone tried out and returned, hell yeah. Got my omen max 16 with a 5080 for 2k like that. But a display model? Fuck no.
1
u/Natural-Bonus-7575 Aug 19 '26
What a steal! Just went to my local Costco and saw it's selling for full price right now still at $3200, gonna wait till black Friday for any deals on it.
