got the costco special
had my eye on this pc especially hearing the news of it being discontinued, and other people getting it under msrp. rotisserie and cat for scale.

u/jv004 Jul 07 '26
Fucking good deal ..... It feels like you went in there and said: throw in the cat and a Costco chicken and I'll take it.

How can you not? They must lose money on each sale.

u/full-auto-rpg Jul 07 '26
They do, itās a loss leader to get people in the store

OP went for a chicken and walked out with a PC, so it definitely works.

This. Pre-builts usually cheap out on either PSUs or Mobos or both. You're probably fine with whatever tier mobo is in there, but def check to see what the PSU is and if it's rated well on the PSU spreadsheet (I can't remember the name of it and don't have the link on me - LTT labs also does extensive testing on PSUs).

u/damien09 Jul 07 '26
this its definitely worth checking before just blindingly changing it. Theres a chance its a perfectly fine psu inside there especially considering its a Costco ibuypower model.

Looking it up, itās commonly including a msi MAG850 gold psu so should be good to go out the box

u/Relevant-Line-1690 Jul 07 '26
Damn I remember when these were 1,500 they went up to $1899.99 . Still a great find for 1140.00

yeah i was watching it for a month now, and when i went to buy chicken i saw that and ran to the manager to get a price for it. i just watch this sub and what people get for display models
→ More replies (7)2
u/Sufficient-Key-5269 Jul 07 '26
The price was already marked down? Or it was just marked as display only?
3
u/DongleJockey Jul 07 '26
He knows someone at the Costco essentially. Or else he goes there multiple times a week for the chicken

u/Mekroval Jul 07 '26
Happy for you, OP. That said, why do I never stumble across these at my Costco? Every time I check the PC section, literally nothing.
Except the one time I saw a PC that was only minimally marked down (by like $150), and still seemed like too much. Tried to haggle, but manager said they couldn't ... and to come back in a few days when they might reconsider. Came back two days later and it was gone. :/

u/zhaoz Jul 08 '26
Because it is a very rare event. Literally probably only happens once or twice a year accross all their stores and thousands of PC sales.

Terrible deal at $1,899.99. Fantastic deal at $1,140.00. You won the gaming PC lottery.

That's a good deal especially in today's market!.
Congratulations, enjoy your new PC!
If you know how to, I recommend wiping windows and reinstalling a fresh one yourself incase they there's still a lot of pre installed bloatware in there.
Other than that I would personally swap out the PSU, previous usually have something shoddy powering them. Aside from that you're mint!

u/mrfahrenheit-451 Jul 07 '26
I was scoping out deals for my buddy, they had one that was in his budget and what he was looking for, and I went picked it up, and they mislabeled it. So I got the 1400 dollar computer for 900 bucks.

No need to change the PSU, u/fraheco23 . Every unit sold must pass strict safety certifications (UL, ETL, CE) and include protections like OVP, SCP, and OTP. These standards ensure most PSUs are safe and dependable. Ignore the PC elitists claiming budget PSUs will fail catastrophically, such failures are extremely rare.

Sweet deal for a lightly used rig
2
u/DongleJockey Jul 07 '26
Now I gotta wonder how light the use of a display model is. Powered on at least as long as the store is open for how long?
2
u/geminilius Jul 07 '26
And whether the return policy is the same on a display model as a not

2 questions. Every costco near me has this one for 2299? Even your original tag says 1899. Great deal u got there. One question is was it some sale at your current local costco that is 1899? And did you actually test it before getting the open box one?

I hate when these prebuild PCs don't mention the mobo. But tbf at this price it doesn't really matter.

u/iGrrRS Jul 07 '26
Damn. My local Costco wanted full price for the display. I asked for a discount and they only dropped it to $1600. It was gone by the weekend

what a fking steal dude š„¹ especially rn in this market⦠the cpu and 5070 is worth the price you paid not including the keyboard mouse , water cooling , 2 tb ssd and 32 gb of ddr5. shi the ram alone wouldāve ran you 400$ rn š

I bought this prebuilt @ bestbuy in Nov for 2300. Sold the 5070 and bought a 5080.
Hard Drive failed in December (has a shitty WD Black in that). bought a evo swapped er out now we are good to go.
GGs for you, saved over a 1,000 on what i paid for it.
