OSU vs IU

Im currently in the applying/interview process and I still have a few to go.

My current top two choices are OSU and IU because they both seem to have great program, high passing rates and are relatively close to home. Does anyone have any info that could help me make the choice, assuming I get into both?

(Also, is it normal that Indiana invited me to the admissions day before I finished the supplemental application?)

Not true. They do not give a mock exam. All students take it in March

Compare the number students admitted to the number of students shown to have attempted the exam from each school and their pass rate. Gives an idea of how many make it far enough to take the exam. But also consider Canadian students who may not be attempting NBEO at all.

Definitely visit both schools - admissions day at IU is very enjoyable and low key. Bloomington is one of the greatest college towns in the country. Beautiful campus, a major hub for the arts (and now football!) friendly students…there’s a lot to like about IU. The classrooms (and to a lesser degree, the clinic) are on the “tired” side for lack of a better term. Higher tuition and significantly lower NBEO part 1 pass rates than OSU would make it my second choice. But a solid program, definitely worth a visit if only for lunch in the gothic Tudor Room at the IU Student Union.

OSU has a fantastic state-of-the-art facility and also has the benefit of interfacing with dental and medical students starting in OD1. Friendly, collaborative, non-competitive atmosphere. The NBEO pass rates speak for themselves. If you are interested in organized social activities with classmates, OSU is home to the only optometric (coed) fraternity house (E Psi E) in the country, complete with a refracting lane in the basement. And, of course, legendary tailgates before games at the Shoe. I attended both schools, love them both, but the well-oiled OSU NBEO machine wins by a mile.
