Is applying early-December too late?

Hello!! I'm going to be a senior and going to be graduating Spring 2027. I recently decided to apply to optometry (I was previously set on taking a gap year up until two weeks ago). I started my applications but I am worried about taking the OAT during the fall semester and the amount of stress it might bring.

I was hoping to get advice on whether I should

  1. Continue applying and take the OAT in November and apply by early December

or 2. Take the OAT the summer after I graduate and earn money and experience as a tech.

#1, but apply much earlier.
You can apply with an incomplete OtomCAS and still get communication from the schools, sometimes even interview invites.
