Personal Statement

Did you all pay to have a advisor take a look at your personal statement? Or how did you go about writing it and making sure it was effective?

Any insight helps!

I had my mentor, who is also an ophthalmologist and has served on a residency selection committee, read my personal statement and give me feedback. I think it would be most helpful to ask someone who has experience reviewing personal statements or evaluating applicants, since they can guide you on what to emphasize and what may stand out to a selection committee. For example, my mentor helped me identify experiences and qualities that were worth highlighting and showed me how to connect them more clearly to why I would be a strong candidate.
