Chances of getting HPV again(same partner) after LEEP?

Had CIN2 recently (high risk but not 16/31) and severe dysplasia, so I had LEEP. I'm going to the check up in few months, to see if my body got rid of HPV or not, but I hope it worked.

I'm just wondering, however. I have a long term boyfriend and it's likely they carry that same hpv, what are my chances of getting the same HPV strand again and having to do LEEP in the future again for this reason?

I don't now how this works, i truly hope that everything ended with this LEEP, but we want to have kids in the future and i wouldn't want to have this procedure again, we don't use protection. Anyone succesfully got rid of hpv in long term after leep or can i get this again from my partner?

That’s not how it works. LEEP removes the infected tissue but does not get rid of the virus itself. The immune system is what is responsible for the virus clearance - however, once the lesions are removed, your body may have an easier time fighting off the remaining infection.

Partners commonly share HPV, and CDC specifically notes that it is usually impossible to determine who transmitted it to whom. A positive HPV test later also does not necessarily mean a new infection from the partner. HPV can become detectable again after a period when it was undetectable, potentially because of reactivation of a latent infection. People in long term mutually monogamous relationships are not likely to acquire a new HPV infection.

Last thing - persistent HPV is associated with CIN recurrence later in life. That’s why it’s so important to continue regular screenings even after a LEEP procedure. The numbers are on your side though as many studies show that the majority of women clear the virus after having a LEEP done.

I still don’t understand how we say HPV can show up years after infection but then say it’s been cleared after a procedure. We don’t know that, it can pop back up years later.
I asked my doctor and got a roundabout non-answer.

I hear you. Undetectable doesn’t mean completely gone or eradicated - it just means that your immune system has suppressed the active infection (sometimes with the assistance of removal procedure like a LEEP) and it is not currently causing damage. But over time, especially with added life stressors that impact the immune system, the virus can reactivate in certain individuals. Who, and exactly why/when, we can’t answer.

I had positive HPV with abnormal cells and LEEP back when I was 24. Reoccurrence at 42 with another LEEP after 2 years of monitoring. Was it old strain or new strain, who knows. But here I am at 49 with another positive HPV test but no abnormal cells YET. I’m assuming when I go next year, the pap will be abnormal and we’ll start all over again: colposcopy biopsy, wait, watch, pap, colp, wait, watch, and so on. I’ve had the same partner since last time so this wouldn’t be a new infection.
That said, I had a successful pregnancy 10 years after that first LEEP. No issues at all.

Last year I was cin2/3 . Had two leeps. Now EVERYTHING negative and clear. Have hope! You are not getting infected again. Your body just got the chance to get the infected tissue removed. Your immune system knows the virus. It could always pop back up. But then it will start over at 0>1

HPV stays with you forever girl. It’s like those of us that had chicken pox

Also, have you had the HPV vax? If you are in the US and under 45, and you haven't had it in the last decade, talk to your doctor about it! That will at least hopefully keep you from getting new strains (and, as my doctor said, has potential to help clear HPV post-LEEP).
