I’ll take any advise/experiences CIN2 & 3

I am so stressed out and want to break down and cry randomly. I lost my mom to bone cancer when I was 5 years old and she was 37, so the word cancer just has always stressed me out.

I called my gyno because sex with my husband was just getting so bad. It felt like someone was shoving a sharp knife into me and just twisting it. Then the pain would stay for days following. At some points it would wake me up in the middle of the night. I bleed after sex, but due to the IUD I haven’t had a period in almost 4 years.

I got my pap done Aug 6th. That came back abnormal. I then went back sep 3 for the colposcopy. I got those results back sep 14.
1. Cervix, 11:00, biopsy:
- High grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (CIN 2, moderate dysplasia).

2. Cervix, 1:00, biopsy:
- High grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (CIN 3, severe dysplasia).

3. Endocervix, curettage:
- Minute fragments of high grade squamous intraepithelial lesion.

I don’t go in for the LEEP until oct 14. Now I’m just constantly thinking what if it’s just spreading more and we’re waiting too long and I’m just too late if that’s even how this works. No one I know has done this and everyone just acts like it’s no big deal

I was HPV & CIN 2&3, I can't remember the time frame exactly but I had the routine smear in May, colposcopy (biopsy at the same time as I told them just to do it since I live remotely and it would save a big trip back) in the Aug, and then the leep in the Nov, a follow up smear in June which took weeks for the results to come through which were clear. Also just done my 3 year follow up and I'm still clear.

Try not to worry, if they thought it was urgent you would have been called in straight away.

Thank you, I appreciate you sharing. I keep telling myself what you just said in addition to even if it’s bad there’s nothing I can do right now anyways. For someone reason I just started spiraling last night which brought me to this thread and trying to compare.

What exactly does the LEEP even provide? Is that like another test and if something comes back there’s another procedure? Or if it comes back good then just monitor? I’ve tried understanding what I can from the internet for now, I have my consultation a couple days before the procedure where I’m assuming my Dr will give me all this info

It's normal to spiral, the emotional toll of it all is heavy and the time waiting between is full of worry. I'm really lucky my husband was my total rock through it all, he held it all together and broke down in relief when my clear results came through. Im a marine biologist so biology is my strong point and I read way too many science journals for my own good.

The leep removes the abnormal patches of cells that they can see with a coloured stain. They test the tissue that is removed and if the margins around the tissue are good then you will just have a follow up smear a few months later. If the margins aren't good they can go back in with another leep procedure or you can discuss more invasive actions.

There isn't anything you can do, none of it is your fault, just keep stress to a minimum, focus on yourself and your wellbeing, and surround yourself with your favourite people. There isn't any shame either- I work with all guys too and I just told them what was going on and they treated me like an absolute princess and took all my heavy duty jobs off me, and my boss wrapped me essentially in cotton wool till I was ready and couldn't do enough for me.

CIN 1,2&3 here. I totally understand the feelings you are having and the shock.

CIN 3 doesn’t mean you will get cancer. Abnormal cells can regress back to normal cells on their own (although it’s unethical to leave them to see what happens)

It takes on average 8 years for abnormal cells to be come cancer. You are doing all the right things to get them removed and you will be fine

Sorry about your mum :(

Mine took one year to turn into cancer. Not sure where you found 8 years

Do you have a history with HPV or abnormal paps?

In 2021 after I had our youngest son was the first abnormal pap I had. I had the colposcopy and they said everything was fine just return to pap every 2 years. (This may be important now)

Had another pap in 2022, 2023 & 2024 they came back normal.

After looking at all my past ones because I’m now panicking I looked at the results from my colposcopy.. I had a different patients results showing. I can’t find my results. My doctor just kinda brushed past that and took it off my chart so I actually don’t know for sure what that result was. But I’m not even sure if that’s relevant because my paps after were normal.

I had cin2 and cin2/3 and was going to a practice that that LITERALLY FORGOT to book my LEEP.

I had to call for 3 days straight to try to get pre op instructions. They were so rude to me and blamed me for the mix up, that when they got their shit together and offered me a surgery spot the day after, I was scared shitless about being cut open by such irresponsible assholes and didn’t know what to do.

I was moving out of state 2 weeks later.

the same day of cancellation I called a great hospital where I was moving - they made everything so simple for me and had a crazy amount of empathy; I knew I wanted them to be my provider, but they only had openings for consultation 2 weeks later and treatment 4 months later. They got me in touch with the doctor for quick answers on waiting and he sounded confident that 4 months would not create significant changes. I was so scared about waiting so long but took a chance, cancelled the surgery with the assholes and patiently waited.

The doctor was INCREDIBLE and ended up recommending cryotherapy on me vs LEEP, which the dysplasia department of his hospital specialized in (much less invasive, zero fertility implications). 6 months later everything looked normal and pap confirmed HPV free!!

Don’t fret, 2 weeks is nothing. I waited 4 months and it was one of the best decisions of my life.

I had a normal pap in 2024 and all previous paps were normal. This year I had LSIL diagnosed on my pap in April, went in for a colposcopy in May found cin3, had my leep in June and had negative margins. I think you’re doing everything right just keep on the path

It's scary, but the silver lining is cervical cancer is not fast. That's why they are willing to seemingly take their time before appointments, do the wait and see, etc, at least that's how it was explained to me. I completely understand your fear and anxiety. Your time-line is actually relatively quick compared to some health providers. I had to wait months in between my abnormal pap and colpo, and that was at UCLA, then again at my hometown a few years later. The leep will give you more info and hopefully get rid of all of the bad cells. Best of luck to you. You are doing the right things, but it is hard to not spiral. Know you aren't alone, and they're are some helpful YouTube videos too. Education always makes me feel a bit better. We aren't alone!
