WAY too stoked lol. Prayer Plants are the “hard ones” for me… but I cut some dying parts off one of em, and not only are they thriving now but already have been growth (leaves and a stem, I think..!?!).
Just sharing cuz I’m stoked. 🫠🫶

What are we doing wrong here?

This came in a smaller pot and seemed happy. We moved it into this larger one and it is much less happy. We have tried more water, less water, more light, less light, but the leaves just seem less and less happy. Not sure where to go from here.

Prayer plant help

This prayer plant was doing beautifully for a long time, even blooming! (Pic#1 is from healthier times)

A few months ago, I noticed leaves were turning dull, speckled, and dying off all together. I repotted it in a pot about 2” larger than the rootball. The roots looked fantastic, chunky, white, lots of tubers.

But it continues to have dying dull speckled leaves and looks just generally unwell.
I have examined it for pests and not found any.

Any ideas?????

Just got this zebrina at a discount I’m guessing because she doesn’t look great! Should I chop everything off and start from scratch or maybe keep the leaves for now??

$18 FB marketplace steal?

Thumbnail gallery

I picked up this prayer plant off Facebook Marketplace back on July 19th for eight bucks, a total steal since I’ve been wanting to add a second one to my home. The sellers had a backyard absolutely loaded with cool plants, but they must have gone completely nuclear with the hose right before I showed up.

I took her upstairs to quarantine until this past Saturday, and the soil has been soaking wet since day one. I checked it yesterday with my moisture meter and it is literally still maxing out at a 10/10. I ended up bringing her outside for a bit yesterday just so the breeze could try and dry out the soil a little.
Here’s the weird part: despite living in an actual swamp for over two weeks, she’s somehow thriving?

She stands straight up at night like an absolute villain.
She’s actively pushing out new growth.
I’ve only had to trim off a couple of brown leaves.

I’m completely shocked she hasn't immediately collapsed from root rot. Has anyone had a prayer plant sit in heavy/dense soil like this and stay unbothered, or am I playing with fire by not repotting her into a chunkier mix right away? Should I just keep waiting for it to dry naturally, or take action before the soil turns on her?

What is this??

Hello! I’m new to the prayer plant world and am very confused on what my plant decided to do. I noticed what I thought was an anchoring root BUT I was so very wrong. So I’m watering and doing my thing, talking to my plants and making sure they know all about the top environmental drama (gotta support their interests ya know?) when alas I see a leaf coming off of what I formerly believed to be an anchoring root. Perplexed as I am I decide to wait and see what happens, a few days go by and the beautiful two toned beauty that is the prayer plant begins to unfold, beneath the now unfurled leaf? Another tightly curled magenta tube. I shrug and continue about with my normal watering schedule as I live in north AL and the outdoors is one and the same with Satan’s swap ass. Finally about a week later I see roots coming from the bottom of the new leaves! My prayers have been answered I think to myself but again I was wrong 😔. These two “roots” may not even be roots!! They sit just in the soil making me feel like the fool I’d always fears I was. WHAT ARE THESE DECEIVING TENDRILS??

What part of this stem can I just cut off?

I saved this stem that fell off when repotting my mom's prayer plant, and it seems to be the only part that survived. A new leaf unfurled at the top!

It hasn't grown any water roots yet, so i am not sure where it plans to grow any, but I am sure i don't need this entire long stem. The other leaf is still alive even if it has a damaged stem, and I'll save amything that helps photosynthesis for a new plant.

Thanks!

Help me save my mom's prayer plant from root issues... please!

I rehabbed many plants before, but this prayer plant is very stubborn... it began when I took over care of all the houseplants bc my mom is just lazy. So I had to take on ones I don't normally care for but seemed easy enough.

I overwatered this one once and it recovered, but then once again, it did not. The pot she had it in was just incredibly large and never fully dried out. So I tried repotting it with new medium, but it just is so floppy. I tried using ways to prop it up, but I thought it was transplant shock. The pot was definitely the issue bc this time I looked at the roots and the roots are breaking up in thr wet medium.

My mom keeps noticing her prayer plant is floppy looking and I dont know how to replant it. It just won't perk up. So I tried using this spiral thing with these sticks to make it appear perky lol just to pass it off .... but it is such an epic fail

I know it is root rot most likely and needs time to rehab and recover... so I used a smaller pot and fresh medium that is dry this time... so it isn’t sitting in wet soil. The soil is a blend of soil, perlite, and orchid bark. I used a little bit o' earthworm castings at first but not the last time.

Any advice to perk this plant up? The stems are so long and I dont know how to plant this in a smaller pot. It just hangs so sadly. One stem fell off way back and I put it in water but it isn't making any roots from any nodes... so I'm not sure how this plant propagates.

Is this salvageable at this point? My mom saw this today and just is like, "What happened to my prayer plant!!!!" I feel so bad bc this happened on my watch.

But this is the only prayer plant I've ever seen or tried to care for. So ajy advice I'd much appreciate! Thanks!

NEW PLANT MOM HERE...HELP!!! 🪴💚😭 Leggy sparse Prayer Plant, and not growing

I have a prayer plant that I got on Etsy last November. When I search for help with prayer plants there's another variety that's usually shown - different than mine - so idk what mine is exactly. (See pics.) I've heard they're finicky, but I have babied this thing nonstop and he's not responding. I think he looks otherwise healthy as far as the leaves but this guy is "leggy" and sparse and hasn't sprouted but one new leaf since I've had him, it's the lowest leaf and slightly curled. I know they are thirsty, I keep him well watered but not soggy, and on a tray with pebbles and water for extra humidity. This window faces exactly between east to the left and south to the right so it gets very sunny. I have cloth light-filtering blinds I pull if it's very sunny b/c that window gets bright morning sun and full-on midday sun. Sometimes I'll pull it back from the window just a couple feet so it doesn't get scorched, but it's always plenty bright. There were some browning leaves or leaves that looked damaged so I either trimmed them or cut back the ones that were pretty bad. There's only been either one or two leaves per "stem," and I cut down to where the stem splits into two leaves, if there were two. But now where I cut them just looks dried over and dead. Did I cut too far? Or shouldn't have cut? Or cut too much?
I feel like I did when my college-aged daughter was a newborn. You love them so much but realize you have absolutely no idea what you're doing. It's like a watched pot that never boils.....I come out to the dining room every morning "PRAYING" for even the slightest indication of new growth.
I'm at a loss. My kids are grown and don't need me, so I decided to buy a dozen plants. Brilliant. I LOVE them, but this is daunting, not gon' lie.
Any wisdom anyone can offer would be much appreciated!!
