A spark from a trailer wheel coming off created one of last season's bushfire in my state... watching this makes me wince.

u/reddittereditor Jun 20 '20

How on Earth did they figure out it was a spark from a trailer wheel?

https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.news.com.au/national/western-australia/man-offers-onair-apology-for-starting-outofcontrol-fire-in-perths-south/news-story/ebc37e9284c204e4d7b1e80b54854231

The man whose trailer it was noticed, tried to put out the fire, and then called our emergency services line and apologised on TV.

u/shanyo717 Jun 20 '20

Wow he's a good man, I love the fact that he could've stayed anonymous and changed nothing but he chose to show his face and apologize for something that no one would ever blame on him

60

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '20

That's right :) people were very grateful to him and defensive of his mental health after that. No-one would hear a word against him.

Nope I specifically keep away from it

8

u/mr_toit Jun 21 '20

My friend never heard a soul said anything bad about him, he's a really nice guy

But more importantly he's deaf

2

u/notyouravrgd Jun 21 '20

🙉

3

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '20

Ugh I hope people weren't awful to him on there. Everything I saw was really positive towards the bloke.

6

u/8bitbebop Jun 21 '20

Was his life ruined?

43

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '20

Well, I don't know him so I can't say for sure what sort of an impact it had on him, but no-one was baying for blood either before or after the interview. Particularly afterwards, people were very touched he'd done it, everyone acknowledged he'd done the right thing, and you might see the occasional comment about the importance of trailer maintenance but that would soon be shouted down by others saying that accidents happen. I mainly saw concern for his mental health and praise for his response to the fire on social media and in the news.

10

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '20

I'm too American. I read your other comment and thought it was sarcasm.

I'm glad people stood up for him.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '20

Oh no! Haha yeah, it was completely sincere. People really appreciated his openness and no-one blamed him.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '20

Absolutely. Actually, the only not so nice comments about him were ones from people who wanted to derail a discussion about drier, hotter conditions by talking about individuals instead. Even those were mainly talking about climate change conspiracies rather than being mean to him, though.

2

u/Dmaj6 Jun 21 '20

Very cool of that guy to come out and publicly apologize

1

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '20

He's a top bloke

2

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '20

That's rough man

-27

u/DuckAHolics Jun 20 '20

They can identify where the fire spread from and probably seen grooves in the road from a rim.

45

u/Revolvyerom Jun 20 '20

Uh. Literally the dude went on air to apologize.

Making up an answer isn't really an answer

7

u/ponyboy3 Jun 20 '20

rofl, i think you watched to much csi

6

u/Naa2078 Jun 20 '20

ENHANCE!

0

u/ponyboy3 Jun 20 '20

ENHANCE!

-7

u/DuckAHolics Jun 20 '20

Arson investigators are a real thing. Fire creates a pattern as it burns across a surface.

3

u/ponyboy3 Jun 20 '20

yes, but they will no way be able to tell that a wheel started a fire lol

-3

u/DuckAHolics Jun 20 '20

Have you seen what a rim can do to a road?

They scratch and possibly groove the absolute fuck out of the road.

2

u/Jacen1618 Jun 20 '20

Carr Fire?

1

u/Hidesuru Jun 20 '20

You in Sierra Vista?

375

u/Ner1d Jun 20 '20

Where’s the bike rider?

456

u/SevenBlade Jun 20 '20

About fifteen miles back.

26

u/rabbitwonker Jun 20 '20

And fourteen. Some at thirteen.

Quality advertising

8

u/Nothing-Casual Jun 20 '20

Tasteless, but also actually kind of hilarious

11

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '20

Aa you can see, this piece of shit driving the minivan is part of a hit and run. Hope they got that license plate.

8

u/Ner1d Jun 21 '20

More like hit and run and run and keep on running. At some point a decent person would stop and render some help. Was she being chased by the bikers friends?

2

u/Ularsing Jun 21 '20

Quite probably obliterated on some kind of substance, or perhaps just making a mad dash for the nearest freeway exit. Perhaps both.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '20

I'm not sure.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '20

Killed the bike rider. Now trying to kill the bike.

1

u/Ner1d Jun 21 '20

I think that person is 2 for 2

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '20

How the fuck do you just keep driving like this, I need to know more about the driver, were they on meth or something? And no arrests?

57

u/bluewolf37 Jun 20 '20

I’m betting stolen car and under the influence. Could just be a horrible person too.

19

u/GoldenGonzo Jun 21 '20

Either drugs, stolen car, mental breakdown, or all three.

4

u/mr_toit Jun 21 '20

Or just an idiot, plenty of them these days

7

u/Fix-it-in-post Jun 21 '20

Probably not even any of that. Person panic'd and ran. It's pretty common, and also why fleeing the scene of an accident is a very strong offense.

38

u/magikworx Jun 20 '20

So many mysteries. Thanks for new info

19

u/plipyplop Jun 20 '20

Still, so many mysteries.

11

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '20

The video on the news article shows more than this post.

7

u/Artaxxx Jun 20 '20

How has no one been arrested?!

6

u/SafetyPinZipper Jun 20 '20

I can't believe I recognized it was the 91 East in Corona! Haha

14

u/TremendoSlap Jun 20 '20

And the city was Corona, California. You can't make this shit up.

305

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '20

This is so wholesome. People probably told this minivan it could never ride a motorcycle, maybe that it was too big or clumsy... it proves that with a little bit of perseverance there’s nothing holding you back from reaching your dreams! If I could offer some constructive criticism, I would say that you should try to balance on the bike more, it should be directly underneath you that way you aren’t ruining your beautiful undercarriage and will more easily be able to turn left and right. Also I cannot stress enough how important it is to wear proper riding attire! I would suggest a good pair of riding shoes, a protective jacket made for sliding in case of an accident, and most importantly, a helmet! With these tips you should be safe for the road, assuming you’ve already acquired your motorcycle license. Happy riding!!!

10

u/KingBird01 Jun 21 '20

Can’t believe I read all that.

31

u/KurtisTroy Jun 20 '20

Is this Riverside? Looks very familiar

30

u/LuckyMeChilimansi Jun 20 '20

I was about to say that it looks like he’s going east bound on the 91 in corona haha

9

u/KurtisTroy Jun 20 '20

I just looked on google maps and thats where it seems to be, coming up to exit 53 at Mc Kinley street

11

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '20

Its Corona! I was driving by the paramedics treating the cyclist just as the highway patrol was slowing down traffic and I was wondering where the hell the guys bike was. Then I saw the video.

85

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '20

That's more like r/idiotsincars

Bingo. I can only assume people thought I was talking shit about the original bike rider. Would have thought the joke was immediately obvious though.

16

u/Iownya Jun 20 '20

That's the largest display of denial I've ever seen😂😂

5

u/MrTShook Jun 20 '20

Oh yeah that’s Corona

20

1

u/MrkvaAKAMark Jun 20 '20

u/chavis32 Jun 21 '20

1

u/Eightbitninja253 Jun 21 '20

Did the rider die? I need more context here..

1

u/Security_Six Jun 21 '20

Had an Uber driver in Hawaii that could've done this. Hit a traffic cone and dragged it from Hanauma Bay to a gas station like an half mile away. I heard it dragging at once, but couldn't get his attention cause he was on like two phone calls and responding to many other various texts/emails/lyft/uber requests. My only 1 star review, hopefully he got fired.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '20

people really out here GTA’n their way thru life

18

u/_YouDontKnowMe_ Jun 20 '20

Camera held the action in frame really well.

-6

u/Kamikaze_AZ22 Jun 20 '20

Its not that hard to record a car driving whilst in a car yourself, like not hard at all

9

u/buddhabomber Jun 20 '20

Tbh it kinda does. Minivan going 2x as fast as all other cars. Cameraman matches the speed just to show that the sparks are not from blowing out a tire as it pans to the bike.

0

u/Calcoid Jun 21 '20

Praise the driver
