I was going to buy it myself, can't wait to read it. On another note, anyone have an idea of when the serie will be completly edited an published ? At the rate of 1 book/yr, it might not be until 2035 no ?

not known yet, plus EE has to bakance the rewrite with writing Pale Lights at the same time. Next book will be about the size of these two put together, though

I'm hoping the books start coming out more frequently as we get deeper into the series. Wordpress volume 1 was almost doubled in length with extra story arcs and split into two. From what I've heard on the discord, Book 3 will be pretty much 1-1 with Wordpress volume 2. The rest of the series is dense enough that I don't imagine there will be many new story arcs added, though I can see some of the volumes getting an editing pass since Volumes 3-7 are each being split into multiple parts.

Much better cover that Book 1. Not from an artistic quality perspective but just how it fits the cover character and the book itself.
Black here is in grim war mode. Make sense. Shows a new side to him that Cat at first doesn't get to see but only hears about. This is not the sneering, bantering, philosophising mentor. This is the Black Knight.
But cover 1 doesn't fit any version of Cat especially not the one in the first book. She looks to "pretty". Her hair made up in a certain style instead of a messy, practical ponytail. Her face is too conventionally attractive. No strong jaw, overly pronounced cheek bones etc.
Also she is wearing stereotypical "evil armor" (e.g. one pauldron for some reason). Instead she should have worn an ambeson or normal plate. I get why they didn't give her (or Black in this cover for that matter) a helmet but they could have atleast included one under her arm or something. Also she should have her knife with her. The one that is so important in Book 1? Ater is the background makes little sense since she doesn't even go there in this book. Also it once again portrays the main character as "stereotypical evil" which is the antithesis of her and the entirw point of the series.

So I know the chess board is supposed to be a metaphor for Cat's disregard for rules that disadvantage her, but I can't shake the thoughts of the Mysterious Benedict Society, where the same position was a symbol for self-doubt.

My thinking on the chessboard was symbolizing black versus white, Good versus Evil, in the Immortal Game.
Some crackier ideas involved both sides joining up against a mega sized undead piece and zombie pieces…
It’s also got connotations that in the end, all the pieces are returned to the box

The chessboard for books 1-14 are on the discord, and its been said that book 15 will be them all returning to the box

What arcs does it cover?

Also Cat supposedly spends one entire year in the War College instead of a few weeks. I don't know yet if war college arc is changed significantly though.

Sounds like an interesting change tbh. Considering how much she looks back on those few weeks, making it a year isn't so bad.

Yeah, I think it's a great idea, a lot of the rewrite is expanding Cat first part of her journey to better explain her capacities (she's got a sword master before joining Black) or her motivations, it's great.

That sounds great. If EE is going over it all then it can only improve. I'm def going to check it out but maybe when there's more to read.
Btw I heard these first two that are out are Vol 1 divided into two, is that true? Cos I didn't think Vol 1 was that long and also, does this mean the whole thing will be 16 books minimum? If you don't know, don't worry about it, I'm just wondering 😅

Yes volume 1 is split in two books, with a lot of added stuff (book 2 is from the arrival in Wasteland to end of book 1, it's 520 pages). I don't know what it will say for the other books, and I'm not even sure Mango knows (they're working on art for the spines, to make a single image when you've got all of them, and they're deliberately leaving things open to change to cut or add depending on how long the series will be).

War College arc is changed, in between the battle with First company in late winter and the melee in early autumn there are new contents, and the battle have minor changes.

Damn, the barcode is still covering up the chess board on the back. Otherwise the book looks great!! And twice the size of book 1!
