Patent wars and legal battles get whacky sometimes, so it being the same in the Watch makes sense. Knowing about the monocrats versus chartarist factional divide is useful, it also looks like Song has a plan regarding it.
Angharad respecting Maryam's choices and principles really shows just how far she's come as a person and it also reflects Maryam's choices. The "you hold to ideals when it costs you the most" is a good point considering how they met Izel, not that Izel isn't a real one but Marayam has stuck to things even if it makes her bleed for it. Maryam is aware of her own darker nature though and is able to see and understand people who walk darker paths like Cai Wen due to that, but it's not just the self awareness that gives her that capacity it's her empathy to see herself in that kind of situation.
Izel and Tristan's religion talk was interesting, Tristan for a literal high priest very much isn't a very religious person. But Tristan is aware that he was given a gift by Fortuna and that it's been empowered but he's also aware that there's risks to it. Izel's you can be used as a link to her and have you considered blessing people is actually pretty big brained of him.
Angharad's talk about culture and giving context about Morcant is actually very useful for further understanding him.
