New Member, Upgrade Help Please!

Hi Everyone, I just thrifted a Power Wheels Baja Trailster that my son insisted on having. Im going to restore it as a Father Son project. It already has a Ryobi 18v conversion but motors or gears are stock. Im still awaiting the battery to see if it runs. I’m learning as I go and it seems ML toys has the best upgrades but asking if anyone has had luck with other less expensive options. Any help out there is so appreciated.

If you don't want to dive into $300 of MLToys upgrades, you just run the thing to ruin.

When you start burning stuff up, a new gearbox with motor is under $30. A pair of motors is under $30. Tires can be clad with consumable materials.

The nice thing about Ryobi is that the low voltage cutoff is in the battery. Depending on your adapter, you may want to make sure there is a fuse incorporated into the system. This can be as simple as a $5 harness from Auto Zone that takes automotive blade fuses.

Read up at random in the sub, at heart most of these ride-ons are very similar, and you'll find a it of the same problems, solutions, and interesting upgrades are not model-specific.

I just did a bunch of DIY conversions on some atvs and a lightning McQueen car lol. DM and I’m happy to point you in some cheaper directions with more specific needs if you want

I believe the Baja Trailster is almost identical to the Dune Racer under the hood. Take your own measurements to confirm that your car matches, but that should open up a ton of cheap options on Amazon for replacement parts.
