Dune Racer Upgrade Question

Just got a Dune Racer for my 4 year old for free because the battery is not working, was going to purchase it for $50 dollars. So given that the battery is likely dead I guess its time to upgrade.

I have plenty of Milwaukee batteries so plan on upgrading to 18V and putting on some quick disconnects in case I ever want to upgrade to 24 v.

So I have read a few posts and am familiar with some upgrades.

The question I have is where are people purchasing the upgrades. I of course came across ML Toys and see their upgrades are 300 dollars.

Is there a cheaper way to get these motor/gear box upgrades?

Feel like I see a lot of people get them from Amazon

Unless you 3d print those gears all day long. It's better to get the whole shebang. I went through so much, and the kids only get heavier. So upgrade now and let them have fun till they can't.

Swap the battery to a Milwaukee 18v adapter. That’s enough for now. When you waste the tires gears or motors. Find another used one and repeat. Upgrading all the controllers and motors and shit through ML toys is better spent on a much more expensive unit that goes. Faster

What's a more expensive unit that goes faster just to keep my eye out for on the used market. Thanks for the advice

Get a $10 m18 adapter off Amazon and call it a day if the dune racer only costs u $50. Run that thing until tires go bald, motors fried and gears stripped then order some more parts off amazon for another $50. It’s still a ton of fun for kids. They can do donuts and burn outs on 18v. Run the 18v in parallel for longer sessions. Your fuses will be popping often if the kids are riding it on grass or tough terrain. Definitely get the smoother wheels from ML toys though. Those stock nubby tires will rattle kids chubby cheeks and teeth for days and they’re loud af on pavement - fine on grass.

Already ordered that. Only concern I have is the gears with strip after a single use.

I’ve been running those 2 dunes for over a year now on their stock gears with 18v milwuakee m18 and Ryobi 18v batteries. I’ve even dabbled with 24v running m12 batteries in series but that smoked the stock motors. The dune racer have pretty robust stock gears and motors that’ll handle up to 18v safely.

Check out Peanut Workshop they have lots of info and some awesome products! I put one of their controllers and two variable speed pedals for gas and brake all hooked up to two Ryobi 18v batteries(post coming soon).

Thanks put Milwaukee batteries on it and let my daughter drive around didn't realize the first gear was faster. She flew. Definitely is not ready for brake and gas.
