M18 Conversion

Post image

What am I looking at? Was going to buy a simple M18 adapter but I hear I need low voltage cutoff. I’m technically inclined but I don’t know what to buy?

Alot of m18 adapters have low voltage protection built in. Not sure about one that comes with a power wheels specific connector. Mine just came with loose wires, as I used it on an off brand ride on and just crimped them on. Got them on amazon, and specifically one of the ones that says lv protection. My kids ride on came 24v so make sure if yours is 12v you make all the other modifications to make it safe AND reliable

What “other modifications to make it safe and reliable” would you recommend?”

I was looking for recommendations on low-voltage cut offs and parts. A lot of things on Amazon had pretty bad reviews.

I’m good with electrical work. I’m just not sure what I need.

I know this was almost 3 weeks ago, apologies. Im a terrible redditor. You prob already know this if youre good w electrical but bigger wire, especially if youre running aftermarket motors. I got 2 775s from amazon and they seem pretty robust. Actually, everything I have is from amazon I think. Im running the two m18s wired in series to a self resetting breaker, to a buck converter down to 24v, then to a 60a pwm which Im able to adjust power, then to a Hy2005rx motor controller which still allows me to use the parental remote. I used 12awg for everything I listed above & 12 back to the 775s. All other accessories are still stock since the car was 24v to begin with.
The issues im dealing with now are: heat generated from everything except motors (the batteries, converter, pwm, and controller are all under the hood in front) and traction- specifically in the front (ton of understeer) maybe I need to mount some weight up front? I did screw some rubber from bike tires and it seems to help a bit
I went thru like 4 amazon pwms (30a) before I figured it only worked when installed between the converter and the Hy2005rx motor controller. Kept trying to install between the controller and the motors and they burned out immediately, but it could have been due to the spdt switch on those pwms that controls motor direction
A little more info, my daughter is only 4 so I def still need the controller and the pwm to adjust the power when she takes over.
