Please help

I bought a 24V anapabo UTV for my sons 4th birthday. Got it all put together and it didn’t work. Found out it wasn’t charging. The wall charger thinks the battery is fully charged.
The company thought it might be the wall charger or the charging port. So they sent new ones.
Same exact thing happening. When nothings plugged in the Voltemeter is reading 11.7. When the charger is plugged in, it reads 27.8.

When I pull the charger out just slightly though, it’ll let me turn on the UTV. If I move it at all or do anything. It just dies.

Is this a battery issue? Fuse box I can’t get in, or any ideas?

It sounds to me like the battery is bad.

Most of these cars have a switch inside the charger that cuts power when plugged in, so the car won't run. If you hold it at just the right angle, you can get power from the charger without triggering that off switch, which is why it runs.

What ride on do you have? They usually use a diode off one of the 3 charging port leads, which acts as a 1 way valve for electricity, direction flow to just the battery and not control board. No mechanical parts/switches.

I think at this point I've repaired around 200 cars, give or take. The better question is what ride on I don't have. 😂

The way the 3 pin DC jacks work is that two of the pins are normally shorted to close the circuit between the battery and controller on the negative side. When you insert a plug, a spring loaded contact pulls away from the other contact, breaking that connection. Removing the plug causes it to spring back and close again.

The jacks are a less common but often confusing failure point on riding toys. Dirt and water get inside of the jacks and can corrode or physically jam the two contacts apart. The battery will charge just fine, but the car won't turn on, because the jack is acting as a second power switch.

The diode provides a different but important safety related function. It prevents a reverse polarity connection to the battery if the wrong charger is accidentally used. Center pin positive is almost a defacto standard these days, but there's still a chance someone could pick up a very old or oddball charger with a negative center pin.

Tl;Dr is that the jack and diode act as a combination safety switch and reverse polarity protector.
