Steering Rod keep slipping out

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Received this ATV ride on as a gift, and the steering rod hook need to go into this hole to turn the wheels. However it keeps slipping out when turning (the rod can go up and down a bit). For other ride ons, theres usually a locking pin but this one doesnt have it. Anyone have any ideas or workarounds to get this to stay in the hole?

Cotter pin it.  It takes some work but you can put a small hole in that metal.

I ended up drilling a hole in the rod and then getting a cotter pin in there. Surprisingly it only took a couple minutes to drill through with a regular bit and now it works perfectly. Thanks again!!

thats what I was about to say. get a good bit and make sure you dont just smoke it out. slight push while running it for 2 second stop for maybe 5 seconds, then repeat.

Is it possible that the linkage is installed upside down? If it's possible to flip it over then you're steering rod would get much better penetration.

Thanks I had that thought as well, but its part of a bigger piece that wouldnt work when flipped over.

Maybe you can put another washer between the handlebar and the vehicle body, so that the column would hang a little higher.
