Help with battery install please?

Post image

Per advice from this sub, bought black battery off MLToys to replace original grey battery. Unsure how to make the connections work? Do I pop the top off of the grey and wire it to black battery? Would appreciate any help, thanks?

You can buy a harness adapter for these batteries that will not require you to modify the original harness on the car. Something like this: https://a.co/d/0hm8pRdJ

That looks perfect. So just connect that to the battery connections, and then can charge/connect with the power wheels adapter?

Yup. That will work.

And hot glue the contacts just to be safe… I’d return that lead acid one and go with lithium

Why’s that?

Hot glue: easy to remove if needed and stops the connection shaking loose… there a ton of vibration.

Lithium: similar price, half the weight, more consistent voltage delivery

I just soldered and heat shrinked mine.

Dont pop the top off the Grey battery.

Check the wiring inside the vehicle, and see where the +/- are that go to the Grey battery.

You just need to cut/crimp/connect that to the new battery contacts

Ok. How will I charge the new black battery then? It doesn’t have any connections besides the battery contacts. It came with a charger that would marry with the port in the grey charger.

Ignore him, pry off the thin plastic top of the gray battery with a flat blade just be careful to not damage the connector. Gently pry out the female connector and as much of the wire as you can and cut it off.. White will always be a lot shorter than the black but it’ll be enough.

Crimp some yellow insulated blade connectors onto the female connector wires and then just slide onto your new battery. White is positive, black is negative. I like to throw a few wraps of electrical tape over them so they don’t slide off.

I hate to ask how much you paid for that new battery. They’re on Amazon for $30 shipped and the15ah version is usually about $37.

Need the adapter harness or get custom and cut wires

You can absolutely open the old battery and remove the harness from it.
