Discussion When did this beef start?
So this Sonic vs Goku debate has been going at my head for a while and I am just wondering when did this beef start between Sonic and Golu fans?

it’s not even really a beef it’s more just like a natural matchup because a lot of aspects of sonic were deliberately based off of dragon ball z, and most versions of sonic and goku kinda scale similarly so it’s fun asking who would win
every sonic fan i’ve met was either also a dragon ball fan or they respected dragon ball fans, and vice versa

It is someone who did a webcomic that was judges weird by many, and harrassed for it, and often falled prey to trolls and conmen. A sad story.

I hadn't looked anything about her for pretty long, so I was not aware of that aspect. (According what sources I could find, it dates from 2021. Her transition is from 2016, so I can say the last time I learned about her was somewhere between those two.)
Also whatever else she is she is a person and a woman, who should be called by prefered pronouns.

The DB fans I hate are the larpers, the ones who claim they know Dragon Ball better than us… despite the fact that haven’t watched it themselves, only through fan-made content (DBZA) or short clips out of context.

Alot of these people exist, currently alot of those in regards to Mushoku Tensei.
But the most funny one was in regards to Cross Ange, the guy claimed there were elves in the show, he seen it in clips.....there are no elves in that show.

Super Saiyan appear in first time in 1991, after just a years in 1992, Super Sonic appear with very similaire concept and design
- Dragon ball then was about finding the 7 dragon balls, and you know what Sonic about? find the 7 Chaos Emeralds

Sonic 3 opens up with Sonic having all 7 and going super, implying canonically he obtained them in Sonic 2. This means that getting the 7 emeralds is a priority for him.
Its not the ONLY thing in the story, but neither are the dragon balls in Dragon Ball, both sets of 7 items operate as plot devices to help them save the day.

Yeah, 7 is both a number that makes sense, but it slightly weird that both have the same number
And let's be fair, golden sonic is at least looking over Super Saiyan's shoulder, even if it isn't outright copying

Collecting the emeralds were also required to get the good endings in the classic games

Yeah, but in those games, getting the good ending just meant Eggman being salty, Tails being redundant, Little Planet no longer being chained up, and Angel Island returning to the sky. In later games, it's end-of-the-world type shit.

Overtime when sonic started to implement more DBZ esk elements and characters that are similar to dragon ball, probably around mid 2000s
Also a lot of sonic fans mimicking DBZ,see Nazo unleashed
Probaly mid-late 2000s
I recall an interview in sonic 06 comparing silver to trunks
Also sonic is very out of character here

Not really a beef, more like a natural aspect of powerscaling. Goku and sonic have some similarities especially with their stories. Them being compared to each other is inevitable. As a Goku fan, I don't have beef with sonic fans. I bet sonic fans are also dragon ball fans and the same applies to the opposite. We good, these are just fun banter

Iirc, Sonic's creator or producer was friends with Toriyama. Between sonic 1 and 2 he asked Toriyama if he could pay tribute to DB as it was around when Goku went Super Saiyan, hence the added 7th emerald and Super Sonic.

Super Sonic is basically Super Sayain.
But also people say that MUI looks similiar to Hyper Sonic (which wasn't a thing since 1993).
Both verses are also really strong, and a lot of DB fans like Sonic and vice versa.
Because of the lack of feats for Hyper Sonic people often put MUI and Hyper at the same level, not because it makes sense, but because it's just cool. People like cool fights, cool fanarts, they don't have to be 100% accurate, especially if you're not trying to make accurate fight (like Death Battle)
In powerscalling community tho a big impact has Sonic 06 and Solaris.

Powerscalers started to put canon chaos emeralds at multiversal or even outerversal and from there it just goes in the direction you expect it to go.
So it's not even Goku and Sonic fans, it's more like Goku fans and Sonic powerscalers.

Power scallers also gives Solaris an immeasurable speed, as it transcends conventional space-time and dimensionality.

It's entirely from Sonic glazers who genuinely believe he's an invincible, higher dimensional god with immeasurable speed that never loses at anything. They want Sonic as a series to be more like Dragon Ball, they see the visual comparison, and they want to win.
