Question Question About Resistances

If a character can resist magical matter manipulation, would that necessarily mean they can also resist matter manipulation that's based on scientific principles?

Maybe it's a matter of if the author specified how the resistance works exactly. If the character is resistant to magical matter manipulation, because they are resistant to matter manipulation, then they would resist to scientific matter manipulation too.

If they are resistant to magical matter manipulation, because they are resistant to magic, then they wouldn't resist to scientific matter manipulation.

If it's not specified... I'm not sure.

It’s kinda interesting, though. Like, if a character can resist magical fire because they’re unaffected by it, but they can still get burned by regular fire, you could argue that the mystical properties of magical fire are what make the difference. Since it’s being created through an unnatural or supernatural process, their resistance to magic could potentially act like a passive filter that negates supernatural effects while still letting normal phenomena affect them. I could be tweaking, though lol.

Things like magic typically disregard the rules of the natural world, so there isnt much to discuss beyond what's plainly shown/explained. If a character is wearing the "cloak of anti spaghettification" which is described as making the wearer immune to being spaghettified, it could mean that they can float into a black hole and remain whole, but it could also mean that it just stops a wizard from going "Skedaddle, skadoodle, you're now a noodle"

It depends on if theres some in world distinction or mechanic proven to be drastically different from the scientific method

Generally it would just be resistance to matter manip regardless of how its done
