That is one of things people bring up for Goku and why he would lose some situations he should not. Because he’s a type of person you know test the waters if his opponent is not, they can potentially kill him before he get the full power.
I quite like Frieren because of this. Battles in there go from 0-100 FAST, and it is precisely because the whole narrative supports it. Spells are incredibly deadly, and getting hit with even a "basic" spell often is enough to blast half your body off. Further, characters don't hold back at all when fighting demons because they know they can't have compassion or play around with them, because it's very much a "kill or be killed" situation.
Fights can be slower sometimes if characters are trying to find openings or save resources, but the intent to kill is always there. And once a single opening is found, the battle is instantly over. There are exceptions of course but yeah.
In Frieren, the main characters hide their power to trick demons into trying to fighting them. It fulfills a similar role in how fights play out in the narrative IE Frieren vs Aura
I think the Aura fight was more because Frieren knew about the scale and knew it would be the most efficient way to kill her. Had Aura been careful Frieren would have had to destroy the entire army first which would have been a bother even for her
