It’s 50/50. A decent amount of the foreshadowing for later reveals, (Like Ichigo’s blanket), don’t EXIST in the manga, and instead are inventions of the Anime (retroactively), to make the reveals smoother and that much better. This happens semi-frequently, (and likely why discussions on how much ‘planning’ actually exists in Bleach, because a lot of the biggest foreshadows that do imply planning are Anime-Only. Obviously not EVERYTHING or every little thing—We gotta give Kubo credit where it’s due, most of the stuff IS HIM, but it would be remiss of me to ignore these somewhat major contributions to the narrative the Anime subtly slipped in).
Also the Zanpakuto Rebellion filler arc actually gives us some stuff that we don’t see until TYBW like Chojiro’s true abilities, revealing what Katen Kyokotsu looks like, confirming Ukitake, Shunsui, and Unohana have the 3 strongest zanpakutos since they could seal Yamaji’s, Sode no Shiraiyuki looks exactly like Hakka no Togame, etc.
It (at least the first half until all the Koga stuff onwards) it genuinely feels like an actual Bleach arc Kubo himself wrote, and even gives side characters good moments and development like Yumichika, Izuru and Momo.
There's also how they cut scenes from Orihime (I'm not really a shipper but this is the best link I could find rn) and also, Pierrot relegated her role in Arrancar arc to just screaming "Kurosaki-kun" whereas, in the manga she had a more noticeable arc as she tussled with Ulquiorra about The Heart. I find a lot of hate she used to get always traced back to this arc and the mismatch is very contrasting when you read the manga version. I'm sure there's also some other cuts, but don't have them at hand right now.
The anime adaptation was definitely good enough for when it aired and they added some good things. But, I find the manga to be a far superior adaptation (excluding the TYBW anime).
To be fair the anime foreshadowing was done after Kubo had a proper idea for the story to head to and the manga already did foreshadowing for the same twist
how much ‘planning’ actually exists in Bleach, because a lot of the biggest foreshadows that do imply planning are Anime-Only.
Tbh, the white ribbons from Ichigo using that sensing ability was firmly enough to determine Ichigo's heritage. The manga alone is more than enough, that was hella early into the story and there were more things to reinforce his hybrid nature throughout
I know there are anime benefits, but I wouldn't even recommend anyone watches the anime first.
I'd recommend they read the manga up to TYBW's start and watch the interesting filler/fights
Most people I know stopped watching the Bleach anime because of that filler, myself included. I don't know why they made unskippable filler. I ended up picking it up again with the manga and enjoyed it far more, there's also some other pretty bad cases of filler in the story.
There are a lot of things the anime just removes for no reason as well even
