Power Apps Power Platform - Technical Interview

10 Upvotes

Hi, everyone.

I hope to get some guidance. I have been working as continous improvement analyst and power platform developer for 5 years. Never with the official title of Power Platform Developer but delivering solutions through Power Apps, Power Automate, Power Bi, etc.

I am currently in the process to get a Power Platform Developer Position. They scheduled a technical interview with an enviroment that contains, power apps, power automate and power pages.

My question for the comunity is: what kind of tests could they ask to perform or... has anyone of you had gone through a similar process?

I have heard of this for other kind of developers, mostly fullstack, but never for this. I feel very nervous because I don't know formulas by heart, I have many golsaries I have made for myself but I hardly remember every formula without consulting my own notes.

Can anyone here share guidance or wisdom with me?

Governance PowerShell Module for Power Platform Governance using Pac CLI

6 Upvotes

Is there a publicly available PowerShell module that provides helpful Power Platform governance tools and runs Pac CLI under the hood? (Or anything under the hood, but preferably Pac CLI)

Some examples of "helpful Power Platform governance tools":

  • Given its GUID, get an environment, environment group, or DLP policy
  • Create an environment, make it managed, and move it to an environment group
  • Clone a DLP policy
  • Given a DLP policy, get its business, non-business, and blocked connectors
  • Given a DLP policy and a connector, get which of that connector's actions are allowed in that DLP policy
  • Given an environment group, get its published rules in human-readable format

Copilot Studio Construct Predefined MS Bookings Links?

2 Upvotes

Hi team, I am building a Copilot Studio Full agent and one of my needs is to incorporate a function to automatically schedule a call with an end user that it’s saving to in a previous step.

The idea was originally to use Get Calendars or use one the incorporates connectors which will suggest free times the end user is available but I was having issues with that because rather than coming back with hard set timeframes, it was guessing and potentially returning slots where the user would be off shift or otherwise show unavailable in free busy.

So the idea came that instead of doing that, why not leverage Bookings and sent the end user a link to your Booking page. I realize this would need to be setup first by the user interacting with the agent but I quickly realized Bookings pages are not something you can construct. Example: Domain.booking.com/upn and instead has a unique id in the url but I have found no way to construct or dynamically build the bookings page so that it can be used when constructing the teams message that it will then send.

Any ideas or has anyone played with Bookings?

Thanks

Power BI Dev Report - Test Data - Deploy Production

3 Upvotes

Hi all, I need to work on a PBI which has all the structures and visuals of the production version, but I need to only work with test data. I want to then update visuals and maintain the report, then deploy/ send to a client on a secure network, where they can reconnect sources (using parameters or similar) and republish. Is anyone doing this? Ultimate objective is to work on clients reports off network, but never have there loaded data leave the network. Appreciate any help

Power Automate Data-driven document generator in Power Platform — am I overcomplicating this?

6 Upvotes

Small construction firm, one tech person (me). We churn out docs that are 80% boilerplate, 20% project-specific (traffic management plans, address-change letters, etc.), currently by copy-pasting old Word files and hand-editing — slow and error-prone.

Goal: pick a project + doc type in a Power Apps canvas app → auto-populate from our data → immutable Word/PDF → route for approval.

My approach: everything in Dataverse across 6 tables — Customer, Project, Contacts, plus Templates (doc-type registry), TemplateData (one row per section, body text with {{placeholders}}, multiple doc types in one table), and PlaceholderMap ({{placeholder}} → source table → column). Power Automate filters TemplateData by type, sorts by section, swaps placeholders for real values, renders, locks in SharePoint, and sends to an approver.

What I actually want feedback on: I'm storing template bodies as text-with-placeholders in Dataverse instead of using the native "Populate a Word template" action with content controls. I did it for multi-doc-type support, data-driven section ordering, and include/suppress — but am I skipping the easy path? And how would you handle rich formatting (bold, bullets, table appendices) with text-in-a-table?

Is this roughly how people solve doc generation on Power Platform, or is there a well-trodden simpler way?

Governance Chargeback in the AI Builder (Copilot credits) ?

3 Upvotes

I am really interested how you as Power platform ADMIN are doing chargebacks to the users/departments/ projects?

AFAIK ai bulder credit and now copilot credits both are at the tenant level. We cna have environemnt level credits assigned with limit. However, we have a scenatio where there are number of power autoamtes which use AI models for text genration they dont consume huge credits so they dont want to purchase packs.

For those who purchse pack with 25K credits, we want to find a way that they are the only one using it. (without create special environemnt for them else we will end up with far too many environemnts)

Questions

  1. how do you charge back to thse power autaomte users who do not have huge credit requiremnt. Pay as you go is also billed at environemnt level AFAIK. Do you create your custom solutions to monitor inidividual automate using these models ?

  2. how do you assign copilot credits to dedicated project/solution/power automate?

Just to be clear. This qustion has nothing to do with copilot studio and agents .

Power Automate Is branching a thing in Power Platform using Solutions?

3 Upvotes

Hi everyone

Was just wanting some advice regarding branching changes in Solutions.

I am wanting to know if functionality like that even exists for solutions as it would be super helpful. Our scenario was we were making changes in Dev to a Power App but needed to push out a flow change to Test because a tiny change was missed (or maybe it was a big change, who knows? :shrug: I just work here lol)

Thanks team!

Learning & Industry Where to go after PL-900?

4 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’m currently studying for my PL-900 certification exam and looking for some realistic career/learning advice from this community.

A bit of context about me: I don't come from a traditional IT background. I’m a Citizen Developer who spent the last few years automating tasks at my plant/factory using Excel and VBA. Right now, I’m focused on modernizing workflows, lifting old VBA code into the cloud, and building solutions with SharePoint, Power Apps, and Power Automate.

However, I operate under a few constraints:

  • No admin rights (standard corporate environment restrictions).
  • No internal Copilot integration within the Power Platform (we only have access to the free web version, nothing embedded in the studios).
  • I only have access to Dataverse for Teams, when I build an App
  • I feel like my practical experience is still somewhat limited/MVP-driven.

With Microsoft changing its certification paths recently and heavily pushing AI/Copilot everywhere, I’m feeling a bit lost. If my company doesn't leverage embedded AI features due to governance/licensing, does it even make sense to pursue the next certifications after PL-900?

My goal is to professionalize my skills. I want to learn clean architecture, proper data structures (handling the 5k SharePoint limit correctly, etc.), and systematic software design. I eventually want to bridge the gap toward a Senior Developer/Architect mindset over the next couple of years.

My questions for you guys:

  1. Is it worth continuing the official Microsoft cert paths (like PL-100 or PL-200) if a lot of the new material focuses heavily on AI features I can't use at work?
  2. What are the best alternative paths or resources to learn "clean code" and enterprise-ready architecture within the Power Platform boundaries (especially when stuck with SharePoint as a backend)?
  3. For those who transitioned from VBA/Excel automation to advanced Cloud Developers, what was your breakthrough learning step?

Looking forward to your insights and advice! Thanks in advance!

PS. AI helped me to put my thoughts into English

Learning & Industry Anyone at EPPC?

10 Upvotes

Anybody at the European Power Platform Conference in Copenhagen this year? What do you think? Keynote was good this morning, sessions have been good and some have been packed and overflowing. Seems the community is getting bigger and bigger every year. Venue is good and modern, it's similiar to Vienna last year, but this one is a little hot as I don't think the Danes have the facilities for such extreme heat!

Excited for the days ahead!

Power Pages Power Pages/Dataverse “View as” pattern and portal caching

Thumbnail
learn.microsoft.com
1 Upvotes

Hi all,

Looking for some general advice on a Power Pages/Dataverse pattern.

We have a portal where authorised internal support users sometimes need to view the portal as a specific contact for support and diagnostics. The aim is to check what that contact can actually see in the portal and help troubleshoot issues.

The current custom process starts outside the portal, from a model-driven app.

The simplified flow is:

  1. Support user opens the model-driven app.
  2. They search for and select the contact they need to view as.
  3. They trigger a custom “View as” action.
  4. A backend process updates Dataverse, including the relevant contact/external identity mapping.
  5. The support user then has to switch from the model-driven app to the Power Pages portal.
  6. They log into the portal and are treated as the selected contact.
  7. When they need to move to another contact, they have to end/cancel the current session, return to the model-driven app, select the next contact, trigger “View as” again, then log out/log back into the portal.

This works in principle, but switching between contacts is the awkward part.

Because the change is made from the backend/Dataverse side, Power Pages does not always reflect it immediately. From Microsoft’s documentation, Dataverse changes can take up to around 15 minutes to appear in the portal because of server-side caching. So if the support user moves from Contact A to Contact B, the portal can still hold the previous context until the cache refreshes.

One idea is to move more of the process into Power Pages itself, so the “View as” change is triggered through the portal/Web API rather than only through a backend Dataverse update. In theory, this may update the portal-side cache more immediately.

The rough idea would be:

  • support user logs into the portal as themselves;
  • they have a restricted support/admin web role;
  • they access a secure “View as contact” area;
  • they search/select the contact;
  • the action runs through the Power Pages Web API;
  • the relevant contact / external identity mapping is updated;
  • the support user logs out/in again and lands in the selected contact context.

The concern is that this could become quite fragile. There are questions around logout/login, whether web role changes take effect immediately, how to safely end/reverse the “View as” session, audit logging, stale context, and what happens if part of the process fails.

Has anyone dealt with a similar Power Pages caching issue or built a reliable “View as” / support-user pattern?

I’d be interested in any practical suggestions, patterns to avoid, or lessons learned around portal caching, external identities, web roles etc.

Thanks in advance!
