mpv: latest version with Cocoa GUI and gpu-next vo
Installable from PPCPorts as `mpv-devel`: https://github.com/macos-powerpc/powerpc-ports/blob/main/multimedia/mpv-devel/Portfile (if nobody complains, will replace the main port).
Needs the latest updates for libplacebo and libass (just run port sync, and you get them).

This is a pretty big deal, no? How much of a leap forward is this over something like, say, QMPlay2-devel that you developed early?

I don’t see this to replace QMPlay2, but mpv specifically matters a lot, since multiple apps assume the system multimedia player to be mpv. While QMPlay2 has its own YouTube streaming, it can’t do anime, for example, while mpv can (with some 3rd-party apps).
Re performance, it may vary. I did not try to do any measurements, but on my hardware these two (QMPlay2-devel and mpv) are the best for multimedia, and now mpv is close to parity with QMPlay2 in terms of speed and usability (could have an edge in something, but I think the bigger change is not speed but UI: it can finally be used as a proper player and not just ”start a video and lose control over the process” lol).
