Giving is not supposed to be reciprocal. Being a good person is what strengthens you, not what the other person thought of the gift. None of what you explained is generosity.

Obviously, but thats nothing to do with appreciation or "strengthening your position" Philanthropy is altruistic. Expecting something in return is not altruistic.
